Hi All,

I just received my (new to me) Jet that was shipped with "the correct bulb" - which turned out to be a 30W R39 E14 OPAL spot bulb (ie not clear front).

Separately I received the bottle (with a few other bottles for the Telstar/AstroBaby - more on those in a minute). Put them together and the bottle wasn't doing ANYTHNG (barely getting warm). I replaced this with one of the "oversize" 40W clear R39 bulbs and it seems to have kicked it into life. (pictures to come)…

(pictures to come) Green/Lime fluid seems to be slowly clearing.

My question is - What IS the correct bulb for a Jet?Now the 40W has been running for a couple of hours it seems a bit hot (lots of smal bubbles) - did it originally come with something like a 35W or did they just take an age and a day to warm up? (should it even be a reflector bulb and not a golf-ball style bulb?)

Now to the other bulbs. #1 Black/Plum with clear fluid - seems good if a touch low on the fluid - going to leave this one as it is, not broken so no fix needed. #2 Lime wax and a yelowish green fluid - loads of small bubbles and the fluid level's a bit low (it's below the cap on the AstroBaby). I think I need to top-up the fluid but not quite sure how best to do this. #3 pinkish red wax and clear fluid. Having to run this in the Telstar with the 35W Halogen at almost full power to get it started, turned it down now since it's flowing but the wax seems to have 'split' and seems rather grainy with a number of bubbles in it. Fluid level also low (again below the cap level). #4 was empty when I got it so no comments there, although the spring is missing so I'll have to work on that.

At the moment I have no idea if any if these bottles are on their original wax/fluid combination - most were weeping a little fluid when received so I suspect the seals are gone. I wonder if a top-up with distilled water will restore them to previous levels (pun not intended) or if I need to add something to them with the extra water to get them working properly again.

Your comments are welcome.

I have got some, which I presume are chinese knock-offs, which would account for them lasting only a few weeks and breaking almost every time I remove them. People on here must have up to date information, are they still made by proper lamp manufacturers? What are people using instead? I thought of using a power led with a separate heater, and saw something from ten years ago proposing some new type of hybrid bulb, but again the trail went dead. What is going on? Any information appreciated. P. S.
Being in the states makes finding one quite literally impossible, I only know of one that's been shipped here, so I'll have to make one. I'm planning to build a lamp in spirit of the Rocket (or princess, not sure which is really correct). I'm not attempting to build an exact replica, but something pretty close. So I need some measurements to make sure I get the ratios and proportions correct. I'm looking for is:

The length of the legs

Thickness of the legs

Width of the legs, top and bottom (as they get wider going up)

The height from the floor to the black ring where the legs mount

The diameter of the black ring

The footprint, distance from foot to foot

Diameter and height of the globe

Hi everyone,

I'm new here. I joined because I recently picked up a 27-inch "GRANDE" at an estate sale and I'm a little apprehensive about what bulb to use.

My initial impression was that this is a generic/knockoff lamp as one of the labels indicates it's made in China by Hua Xing Lighting Company (hence the "GRANDE" in quotes), but after looking at pictures of genuine Lava brand examples online, the proportions are dead-on and the water & wax colors appear to match the Lava 6821. I'm wondering if this is a genuine Lava Lite. The label also states it's a "6000 series", but I know that knockoff manufacturers also tend to mimic the model numbers of whatever they're copying.

Anyway, I fully expected it to use something larger than the 40-watt bulbs that the normal size lamps use, but I was a little surprised that the label recommends a 100-watt bulb. With the dubious origin casting doubt on the quality of manufacturing, I find myself wondering if this bulb recommendation is grounded in reality. I was expecting 60 or maybe 75 watts.

Can anyone tell me if this a genuine Lava Lite or a knockoff?

...and is a 100-watt bulb overkill/unsafe, or is that typical for a lamp this size?

Thanks!

I had a magma tower goo kit from another project, so first I tried simply cleaning and refilling the globe with reverse osmosis water and a small amount of surfactant. I filled the globe to about an inch under the top and dropped the surfactant in a little at a time, and eventually ended up using 2/3 of my 6oz bottle (had to syringe liquid out to add more surfactant), but the lava just sat in a liquid blob at the bottom of the lamp.

Then I did a trial where I started getting some movement with epsom salt, but didn't add any surfactant at all in the beginning and wax stuck to the sides (later read it was important to swirl it around the globe to prevent sticking). In this trial, it took 3 tablespoons of epsom to get any movement in the wax. 3 TBSP seems like a lot in a globe that has only 3-4 cups capacity for liquid. Even though I had movement, the wax was stuck to the side (really bad in one spot, it was like an anchor) so I dumped it out, totally fed up, and left it sitting empty for 2 months!

Today I thought I'd try again. I have the lamp, the globe emptied and cleaned again. I swirled 7ml of surfactant around the globe (wax cold, no liquid) then added 2 cups of reverse osmosis water (about 1/2 the globe is full). I turned the lamp on for several hours and the wax melted. The globe looks incredibly clean having been heated up and had a little water and surfactant in the globe. Nothing moved though.

What should I do now? Add more RO water until it's full? Dump it out and refill it then add surfactant? Seems like that's exactly what I did the first time and it didn't work. I am weary because I feel like I have tried a lot of things, but have not found results and been told I was wrong to use epsom salt, which was the only thing that gave me some results.

The sticker on the bottom says "A fun works Original Product" and the bottle is branded "StranPac". I can't really find any information about it online but figured someone here would know.

Any help is appreciated,

Thanks!!

Hey guys! New member here! I was hoping someone would know a bit more about this lava lamp, like who made it, and when/where its from. The sticker on the bottom says "A fun works Original Product" and the bottle is branded "StranPac". I can't really find any information about it online but figured someone here would know.

Any help is appreciated,

Thanks!!
