Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

A completely new lamp is being launched on the 2nd Nov.

Can't link the picture sorry. Won't let me.

But looks die cast, and possibly looking at the curvature it might be taking an astro bottle.

And first 100 out the window. Now a lottery of all the orders placed on the same day. Seems irrelevant to still call it first 100 when it isn't.

What are your thoughts on what it might be?

My thoughts exactly, also your previous post. You've written all the things down that my Husband and I think about Mathmos and their items, hence we no longer buy or collect their products. It's such a shame things have gone the way they have but repeatedly sending things back and incorrect orders became a big issue for us, plus its embarrassing having to contact them to inform them of faults and items missing from orders. Never had issues prior to the 2000's, like you say, Mathmos used to be magic in a bottle, but not for a long time, sadly. We won't be buying whatever it is they've launched, even if it's a colour changing LED lamp. I wouldn't trust it to not be like the three smart Astro lamps we owned that all had to go back.

And to get back to the topic of this discussion...whatever this new lamp will be...I don't care at all. I know I will be disapointed again...either by the quality, design, flow or maybe even by all three of those things. The only thing I still like is their astro bases and the bottles...not the contents...just the empty bottles...I'd take 90's lava lite wax anytime before I punish myself with what they call flow nowadays...I'm sad that I have to say sonething like this though...Mathmos lamps used to be magic in a bottle for me for a long time...but thats all gone.

As you really seem to miss the smart Astros and I know you have white bottles here's my offer to maybe get some of the magical feeling back: I'm going to make an exception and build one Astro RGB with remote for you for just the price of the bare materials...labour on me, Astro base on me, materials and and postage on you.. choice of base colour possible if you want it painted...primer and high gloss clear coat for free, spray can with colour of choice on you...no need to decide rightaway, this offer is temporary unlimited and no hard feelings if you dont want it at all for whatever the reason.

Awww Arne that's so lovely of you, I really wouldn't want you to be out of pocket though, I should imagine it's a lot of work. I have seen your lamp bases and the RGB colour change and they look superb and I really do love the effect you've created. I really would like a lamp made by you, I'm sure my Husband would love a colour changing lamp as well. I'd love a white base and cap, I've always wanted a white base and cap Astro, I've even previously asked Mathmos to no avail. I'll PM you later, I've got to dash out now. Thanks :)

whilst we are in to the last hour or two of waiting, I've just noticed that the candle powered lamps (specifically the pods) have that same yellow "spotlight" lighting on the rear wall, So I guess my bets are on that now.

Neo inspired candle lamp

You never know, it might not be a candle powered lamp, it could be photographed to look like one. But you're probably right.

Don't ya just hate it how M keep you guessing? Even though its unlikely any of us will get a first 100.

Why not just show us and say this is what we're releasing on the 2nd nov? Instead of part pictures and videos. Teasers.

ANYTHING M****** CAN DO, I CAN DO... WORSE?

Reading all of the above makes one thing very clear...

Everybody loves to be teased and the worse the image (giving away no clues whatsoever) the better the tease.

So, here's a tease for you all...

This may (or may not, wouldn't want to give anything away) be a component of our newest lamp, which may or may not be powered by radio-active butterfly wings, a triple AAA battery, hazelnuts shells, a tea light or be entirely solar-powered (so it only works in strong daylight...)

Order now to ensure disappointment...

This lamp will be limited to a run of slightly less than one million and only three will be limited numbered editions.

There will be a lottery to determine who gets a limited edition model and only those who ordered four years prior to delivery will be entered into the prize draw.

No cash alternative will be offered and no refunds given.

Please note that due to the manufacturing method, scratches, defects, dents and total indifference are part of the appeal of this lamp and not considered flaws of any kind.

Please subscribe to our mailing list to keep abreast of exciting new developments and further teasing photographs (the camera will be pulled back 1mm per week until the entire lamp is revealed (Summer 2029, hopefully.)

This really made me laugh, I share you sense of humour

Neo style candle lamp it is. Looks sort of interesting.

Ummm, nice design but I'm not sold on it being heated by a tea light at that size, unless the wax is a special formula. In winter with the heating on in our house it still takes an astro baby nearly two hours to heat up and run fully flowing, less time in summer of course. Plus you'll need a brightly lit room to view it, one candle won't light the wax up much.

I couldn’t agree more !! I’ll pass on this thanks Mathmos.

Same formula as Telstar/Baby they said so be interesting to see how it performs. I'm looking forward to trying it.
