Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

A completely new lamp is being launched on the 2nd Nov.

Can't link the picture sorry. Won't let me.

But looks die cast, and possibly looking at the curvature it might be taking an astro bottle.

And first 100 out the window. Now a lottery of all the orders placed on the same day. Seems irrelevant to still call it first 100 when it isn't.

What are your thoughts on what it might be?

I don't understand how this huge bottle can heat up in such a short space of time, given their fireflow01 doesn't heat up that quickly and it's a much smaller bottle. Even when you raise the candle in the holder for the fireflow01 it's still not quick.

Regarding their first 100, it's a gimmick in our opinion. I ordered a vinyl astro for my Husband given he's a music and vinyl lover, I ordered it within seconds of the site going live, we never received a first 100.

I have noticed that a lot of the first 100's offered for sale on ebay are from people down in the area of the Mathmos factory. The same people seem to offer the same deals on these various first 100's, so make of that what you will. I know what we make if it, so that was another reason we stopped collecting, unfairness of the collecting market. Also there's the same people who offer the special fill bottles for sale each time there's those, massive inflated prices, often they have multiples of the items for sale and again a similar area.

The ones with the thicker base and ridge for the bottles to sit flush with the base. Took about just less than an hour. So same as a telstar.

I ordered mine before the email flyer was sent out and still got diddly squat. This is very unfair on loyal customers. M really need to get their house in order. First come first served or scrap the entire idea. Because the current system is NOT first 100 is it?

I do have a no.2 in a previous model though.

May I ask what your room temperature was at the time?

Quite cool. No more than 16 or 18 c.

That's a remarkable device then, I can't get our Astro baby or Fireflow01 to run that quickly and our temperature is at least 20c with no drafts.

Wow I am impressed I might try a lava bottle now, just to see what happens Still going to stick to my original plan & use it as a glitter lamp.

It's all about the bulbs I realise that now. That's why I use a slightly higher wattage bulb than listed with a dimmer. I've had what I thought was a dead sluggish bottle working really well on this evo lamp.

I've used a tea light which I use on my fireflow which have a small flame, and runs a fireflow well without over heating it at all, in my evo and it is still flowing the bottle quite well. Plus I've got no heating on so it's even cooler than yesterday.

Gotta get more of these I love them.

Only downside is the lack of light from the flame. But clear bottles work really well.

Clear red and clear yellow are amazing. Still yet to try a glitter.

I see a new warning has appeared on the website.

Under instructions it says to wait 24hrs until evo is at room temperature before use as cold bottles may crack with the heat. Sounds worrying to me.

Also under FAQs it says not to use bottles older than 2 years as they may sit too close to the candle. So we shouldn't use older bottles then.

I suppose we must expect a few teething problems.

Well mine arrived,  unfortunately the black/plum refuses to get going no matter what I tealight I use.  My thermostat is set to 20 (although it is admittedly in another room, but the room wouldn’t be far off 20). The wax melts but just sits in a blob at the bottom. I even tried placing a pod beside it to see if a little extra radiant heat would help and nadda.

quite sad about it.  I had ordered another Telstar bottle in a different colourway but that was an afterthought order so I don’t have it yet to test it out.

Concentrated candle heat was a major concern of ours, we could envisage a bottle cracking. Those thoughts were based on the fact that all tealight candles are different and different heats and heights of flame. Having had fragrance oil burners crack over the years, that further put us off. The candle is further away from them as well, even the supposed special glass burners have broken in the past, so very wary.

That's disappointing, the clear and black would have looked stunning running.

I think its a great lamp, works better than I expected, solid build and packaging. Used one of the tea lights in the box to start with but it overheated after a couple of hours so I've been cutting the wick to get a low flame (same with the fireflows) and its working great in an 18c room.

I've tried a few bottles now and they all look good, I like the fact they are not so lit up just for a change. I was worried the heat would be too direct but it's fine.

The new tri sided nose cone is really nice too.

Looks like they had a mix up in the warehouse so people who were emailed about getting a first 100 didn’t and vice versa.

Wouldn't be the first time. I ordered an orange telstar, was told it was a first 100 but it wasn't.

To me the candle sits far to close to the bottle to be really comfortable with. I'm deliberately using lower flame tea lights in mine as the M ones burn like a furnace.

Generally happy though going to keep a close eye on this one.

Online instructions now say bottle may damage, they've removed the crack word.

Although FAQs are the same.
