Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hi....I recently bought a Hot Rocks lamp, blue with yellow goo.  I have a persistent problem where about 1/3 of the goo stays at the top, even after cooling down. I've gone through the steps to recombine the goo twice so far  (empty fluid, melt all the goo, stir to combine, cool) and the issue persists.  Flow is slow but  reasonable, with ping-pong ball lava flowing down from the top mass and up from the coil.

Not knowing it's history, I have to presume the goo was overheated (fluid was cloudy, filtered until clear)

Do I need to replace the lamp goo, or are there other helpful hints that I can try to keep the goo recombined?

Thanks for responding...

Sounds like the wax is shot, these Hot Rocks they tend to do this or separate over time, or get that transparent lava look or sticking. Not sure there is any way to revive the wax. A goo kit would be the answer Lava lab creations, or transplanting from another lamp. If you do the goo kit the surfactant Claude provides in his kits to coat the glass. Follow all instructions and you will have a beautiful new lamp.

Thanks for the reply....

I made 1 more attempt to recombine the original wax (mini mixing paddle on a power drill) with no success...same large lump floating on the top.

Taking your advice, I bought a cheap donor lamp NIB from Spencers and did a Liquid transplant....all is well, with goo flowing as it should.

FYI...I have added inline dimmers to each of my lamps so I can prevent the dreaded overheating wax.

Thanks for the plug!  :)
