Chrome bulb?

I saw this bulb:

What is the chrome part doing?

Is it better for use them in a lavalamp, or is it only good for aesthetic reason?

The chrome part shields the light from the top. Where you can see the chrome, there will not shine light.

It looks like its for dicrecting the light upwards on a lampshade

I dont think its any use for lava lamps as it will also reflect the heat downwards

If somone can find a nice use for it then that would be intresting
