Over the years I have had plenty of globes that I have scrubbed the crap out of with scotch brite sponges, hot water, and soap but cannot get the smudgy residue off of them, especially near the base. After scrubbing I can still "smear" the residue with my finger.
Recently I bought a ceramic that was most definitely from a smokers house, getting the smoke smell out of the base was tough, but the globe has been mostly unsuccessful in removing the residue. So one of my theories is that this residue is from 2nd hand smoke which would explain why it's a mofo.
Has anyone here had success in removing this hazy smear-able residue that appears to have actually penetrated the glass?
