Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Found oozinggoo.com when I was looking for ways to repair the Grande I picked up at CostCo a few years ago.  It's one of the Chinese made ones that has gone extremely cloudy and ceased to flow (going to try replacing the fluid one of these weekends).

It was here that I found out about really big Lava lamps.  I was bowled over by videos of the  Colossus lamps and really want to see if I could get one, I couldn't find them available anywhere so I wrote LavaLite.  I wanted to let this group know what I got this from Lava Lite today:

We have a special promo on the Colossus for serious buyers.   This will be the last time the Colossus will be seen.

Please see attached promo sheet with pricing included.

If you are interested please contact on my direct line at 630-496-6663.

Best regards,

Sadly these prices are outside of my discretionary funds, even though they include shipping.  I post it in hopes that someone here may be interested.

I have been running it for 19 hours straight. the cap reads  as follows

25H

10032901

B

I am so tempted to get another one... lol I am on the fence. and grats on your "V" day present lmao

Don - my cap reads exactly the same.  Hell, I'm turning it on again - 100%.  Always willing to give it one more try!

I think you may have the touch, though.  Congratulations!  :>)

Same numbers on mine and it's still blobs after 3 hours of good flow.  Two nights in a row it even happened within 15 minutes of the same time.

My p/p has run 48 hrs straight and is still flowing great.

Hey Kirk have you tried a new bulb? maybe its defective..

Damn right, I left it at full power for at least 10 hours, go for it

Picked my yellow lava/purple liquid chrome base and table yesterday directly from LL. Letting it reach room temp through Sunday night then turining on for the first time. Will report back.

I didnt run mine for 48 hours to be safe, glad I did that

Thank you for the excellent info.

Hopefully this does not violate anyone's policy.
But i found some web stuff from someone that tells how to make the tables
and have attached in 2 pdf docs.

Eventually, I'm going to make these tables using this guide.
Probably start small/safe with plexiglass for the 'grande' first. Then if i can manage it...laminated
safety glass. Then i'll worry about the colossus after that.
I think perhaps the hardest part maybe be cutting the glass without making mistakes.
I don't think i'll have any issues making the brackets or cutting plexiglass(although it can be tricky sometimes).

I just ordered mine. It doesn't sound like they have many left. I wanted a table but they were out.

Can someone please post picks of the glass piece and table bracket. I would like to try and make one.

Thank you Charlie for the original post. I would have never known about these and I've wanted one since I started collecting lava.

Whelp...

After 2 stellar runs, on the third run, I woke up to stuck flow. :( the wax had come away from the coil completely in places, and I had a hot air balloon of inertia. I fixed it temporarily by turning the lamp off for 10 minutes, and then back on. The wax flowed back over the coil...but it came right back off again 10 minutes later. :(

I hope my globe isn't ruined, but my plans to have my colossus going tonight sure are.

Loren, so sorry you've been hit by the blob :(

I was going to ask for a blue/yellow for a replacement lamp, but maybe not after hearing your lamp got stuck.

On mine, once it cools off, I am getting 3-5 hours of good flow before it blobs if I keep it dimmed to a level that is good for lots of columns.  Can't run it for hours on end, but at least you can enjoy it in parts.

No go.  Ran it for 9 hours at 100%, then turned it down to 70%.  It flowed nicely for 2-3 hours, then became stuck again.

I'm going to trade this one in.  :>)
