You can still push the bottle off of a square seating but it sits in place under it's own weight better than it did.

If you position it square then it stays put which is OK because I don't move the lamp much.

Bonus is that

1. You can remove the tape if need be.

2. You can't see it.

3. It's metal and won't melt or burn.

4. It doesn't block the light or heat.

If I spend more time and carefully add more copper tape I think to would sit even better.

Low hassle solution. Ta daa.

Mathmos did offer me a inner ring to sit in the base at the time, but i just refilled a original bottle from the contents of the new bottle design, i think a ring circle plate may be the best option

Hey Johnny thanks for my 1st reply.

I see what you're thinking. I've not experimented yet but I ordered some vtie moulding silicone and I've already gone off the idea.

I'm going to be pi**ed if it melts or catches fire and ruins a good condition crestworth lantern.

I wonder if I could make or buy a steel or aluminium circular plate like a large washer or ring for the bottle to sit on.

It would sit inside the lamp holder being a smaller diameter than the top but not fall too low due to the lamp holder being conical. The bottle sits more square on the ring and also blocks it from view.

I mentioned the same issues when the new design bottles came out, its frigging pain and like you mathmos didnt get a good idea how to solve it.

If you go down the road of refilling the original bottle then the old bottle needs to be cleaned out, then while cold pour the fluid from the new bottle into the old bottle, then put the new bottle either on your lamp base and melt the wax completely or place in a pan of water and heat it up, once melt tilt both bottles together so you can…

Another option is maybe some of this stuff and put on the edge of the lantern Rubber U Channel Edging Trim find a very small width one and spray copper
