Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Ok - Six Feet Under (Bert) was nice enough to send me a filter pump to use. I got it in and started pumping. I have a few questions..

1 - How many times do I need to filter a grande to see results? I can't tell if it's doing much but I have filtered it at least 1 times, if not 1 1/2 times already.

2 - How hard should I have to pump? It seems pretty easy to pump this thing. I just want to make sure all is good.

Lastly, what I am doing is pumping a pitcher full, 3/4 of the lamp and then dumping it back in. I have done this twice already. I will keep going if it takes multiple times, but I am just needing confirmation.

Also, the ceramic core inside is cracked. Will that effect performance? I left a vm for Bert to find out if that happened before or during transit and whether it was ok. I will feel bad if it happened in transit. :(

Ok gurus, just let me know!

Thanks
Kris

Yeah, I was really stoked with how it turned out. I actually look forward to running it now. So beautiful and the flow is perfect! Love the color. Now all I need to do is find a black grande base and cap. I will make a post on that.
That looks very nice, well done
wow it looks fantastic, nice flow too boot
I just bought one of these MSR miniworks filters to give a few globes a try. I have a blue/white grande that i got from ebay a few years ago that I have never used as it turned up soooooo cloudy.
Pump should be here tomorrow.
Any tips for you guys that have used it would be most appreciated.
Thanks, wish me luck!
It's a simple filter. You can use it right out of the box. When I did the grande, I filtered it from the lamp into some jugs. That was one filter. Instead of pouring back in or anything else, I filtered it from the jugs, back into the lamp. So all the fluid was filtered twice. Out and then in. Was really easy. Just takes a little time. About 20 minutes or so for a full lamp. Maybe 30.
thanks Kris, I'll let you know how it goes ;)
i have the same filter pump you hav used ;)
But i think i did the misstake to put both hoses in the lamp and filteres it...
I will try this tomorrow i think :)
Yeah, let us know how it goes. Its always great to fix lamps that are worthy.

As for the both hoses thing, the bottom of the pump is the OUT. The top side is the IN. :)
I bought one online at www.fieldandtrek.co.uk, reduced from £79.99 to £60.
Ok, i filterpumped a Yellow / Blue grande now with the MSR Filterpump :)
I think the pictures says everything :)

This looks great!! Will the "pur jug" filter work nearly as good as this?
No. It might be ok for some lamps that are not nearly as cloudy but just a tad. However it will eat up filters and be costly. The results are not nearly as good either.
