Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

So was walking around a flea market this weekend and came across a lava lamp bottle with no base & top cap. Thought to myself if it doesn't work I have a bottle for kirk for future glitter creations.

Threw it on top of my bob marley base (not sure it's the right size) and it seems to have warmed up and works sort of. I have no clue how old the bottle is but the lava warming up reminds me of an older one.

The lava texture is quit interesting as it doesn't look really smooth like the new 16.3 inch version I got. It's very hard to explain.

Now, the odd thing. I am not sure if it's because the base might not be the right size but the lava warms up fine and creates one long pillar to the top and simply pulsates with waves of lava go up and down but the lava does not separate into pieces, does this make sense?

The color kinda looks like orange/pink fluid with reddish pink lava? The photos won't show accurate colors.

The bottle is smaller than the 52 oz but bigger than the 32 oz. So, what base would this be used with and can I assume since it's sitting on a 32 oz base, that is why its just making pulsating pillars? The bottle in question is in the middle.

The cap on the bottle looks like an older cap, if you want to see a pic let me know if that can help identify this bottle, etc.

See pics (broken into three separate posts)

Thoughts/comments/anything hahaha? Age model it's from, base it needs?

Thanks snotties!

That's most likely a pink/pink 32oz globe from the early to mid 90s. The top cap should have 04 in big numbers. If so, that's an uncommon color! Looks best on a Midnight base. Great find!

So, you don't want that one.  You want to send it to me.

But really, like Alex said.

Go ahead and post a pic of the cap and we can help confirm but again, if it has the big 04 it's pink and a sought after color.

Also, it IS a 32 oz globe.  So your Bob Marley then is NOT, it's probably a 20 oz and should use a 25 watt bulb instead of the 40 watt that a 32 oz uses.  That's why it isn't at full flow.

Around here we call that type of flow a "column" and is usually well liked, at least it is when the wax also breaks away into multiple globs.

If you need a base and cap you can message me and we can get you fixed up.

Guys,

See attached photo of the cap :)

As always, thanks for the replies

#1 Honestly, I really didn't know what I was buying, I forgot to tell you I paid $3 as the guy who had it said he was gonna chuck it in the trash but put it on his table just for the heck of it. Of course, when I tell you guys what I pay for things, it's never in a bragging way, I'm not like that. It was pure luck I stumbled on it.

#2 With regards to the bob marley lamp, it takes an S11 25 watt bulb so I guess it's a 20oz. Never knew that so thank you Keith on that bit of information. I feel a little stupid hahaha.

#3 With regards to the flow, it's probably the first time I have seen that other than when I had these lamps in the early 90's and would have never remembered it anyway lol. By no mean do I not like it, I just didn't think it was behaving correctly as the bottle didn't fit 100% in the marley base.

#4 I assume the wax texture/make up is correct then for what it is, a little more textured looking, or maybe it did not reach full temp with the smaller watt bulb? Cool on the term "column" flow. Good to know. Learning more everyday!

#5 Keith, yes, I am interested in a base/cap so I can enjoy the lamp as it's suppose to function. I'll PM you tomorrow, go easy on me please :)

#6 I bet you guys all have at least one mathmos, do you know what I do for one of those, within reason of course

#7 Oh, I thought I had a surprise that did not come to fruition. A lady near me had a wizard model with blue liquid, did not mention lava color, mint condition, rarely used, for $15. We almost worked out a mutual exchange point so i could pay and then she insisted I come to her home. I told her in NY, not the safest thing to do as there have been reported cases of bad things happening. She wouldn't change her mind so I passed just for safety ya know. Oh well, maybe next time

Again, I always appreciate everyones help and enjoy the community here!

re: #5, shoot me an offer for the base and cap, minus shipping.  I'll figure out shipping and let you know what the total would be.  Please include your ZIP code.

re: #7, very sketchy on changing the meeting place to her home.  Not worth it at all!
