Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hi all I just received a used fluidium lavalamp. Its quite foggy but I trust it will lessen. Two issues with it though which might be related.
1# The ooze rarely blobs and primarily stays in the bottom of the bottle (perhaps not warm enough? loquid not dense enough; salt? or goo too sticky; soap?

2# Its the older kind with the round logo. It currently contains a clear 40watt osram bulb. I've read here that these old lamps have a glass heat protector in the base, mine does not. Will my base get damaged by this? Should I get a reflector lamp asap? And is this the kind with reflective coating on the bottom of the bulb so all the light reflects upwards?

Thanks!

ps. If anybody know hoe I can get my hands on a new telstar cap (somebody dented mine) it would also be appreciated I do however live in the Netherlands...

Thanks Bohdan & Astrobaby,
Since I bought it used I seem to have the old lamp with the circle, designed by lovegrove around it. However no heat shield. The bulb inside was a golf ball without shielding. I took the 30w lamp out of my telstar looks like this: http://www.funkylighting.com/ekmps/shops/funkylighting/images/lava-... and it works so so after about 5to6 hours it gets going :P (I know they normally use 40watt so that could help. However I'm not sure whether there is a risk using this type of lamp instead of the 40watt golfball.

As for the heat shield, are there any pics anywhere so I can see what its supposed to look like, or if'd want someone to make one what kind of instructions I should be giving..

Thanks again!
