Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I'm in love! That $5 lamp I saw on craigslist was nicer than I thought or expected. Bought a 4th lamp off ebay, this one with blue juice and yellow goo. $40. I am 42 years old, and have never seen a lava lamp in person. I hooked the lamp I got today, in secrete, and after about 40 minutes, was astounded! All those times I partied when I was younger.......Unbelievable, the absolute beauty these lamps give off! I need to hit the craigslist a bit harder. Hey, how do I hook up with someone on the live chat? I keep typing hoping to have someone respond, but no one is there! Am I doing it right?

You are doing it right, lol. This is not a "busy" site but there are some busy times. It's hit or miss. :) Congrats on you purchase! Never seen a lava lamp in person huh? What a treat it must be then. Yes, craigslist is a great place for used USA made lava lamps. Excellent deals to be had.

Word of advice, go slow and pick what you want and don't just start buying things. We are here to help!
Are all Lava Lite brand lamps American made? I know there are Chinese lamps too, but are they off brands? I'm sure I might have saw one back in the day, but sure don't remember. No, the one lamp I bought today, absolutely blew my mind! She sure put on a show! Shiny glowing red goo, pulsing and breathing! Unreal! Can't wait to get the other 3 I bought on Ebay. Really want to get one of those Rocket ship lamps. Those look super neat. Sure am looking to meet some knowledgable folks here so I can learn more. I'll keep an eye on the live chat.
I am not sure of the year, maybe 2003, Lava Light-Lava World started outsourcing all of their lamps. Since the change all are from China, with low quality, especially the goo. Stay with older lamps if you want Lava brand. Be careful about how much you pay for a lamp (new addicts tend to overpay). Research what an average cost should be. Some globe colors are very common and not worth as much (blue water/white goo, clear water/purple goo are two of the most common, but are sometimes listed as rare on ebay). Also, some "off" brands, even though made in China, are very good lamps. Congrats on a new addiction!
I suppose then, that buying extra bottles "new" for lamps like the "century" is unadvisable? I really want to get one of those Mathos Rocket ship lamps. Those look really cool and seem to not be availible on like ebay. Where could a person buy an older vintage Rocket ship lamp?
What a beautiful lamp! Is this your first too?
I have hit second hand stores for ever (years) and never ever seen a lava lamp! This area is so right wing, and anti drug culter or something. I have been advertising on Cl for 2 weeks now every day, and I just got my second response, but she's pulling this "Well....How much are they worth" bullshit. The first guy sold me an older lava lamp for $5. Simple as that. I really hate these people who want to make the absolute top dollar, e bay seller mentality! I'll let you know what happens with this person, if anything. So far, it looks like I might have to battle it out on ebay, but it's alright, because I have the money, and desire to win if I want it! I just need to get back to work is all.......!
>> "Well....How much are they worth" bullshit. The first guy sold me an older lava lamp for $5.

Just make a fair offer, be prepared to pay it or walk away.
If you are honest and being fair there's no bullshit.
Still waiting to even hear back from them. We'll see!
I've got 6 so far, two of them are not lava brand, but off brands. They are both blue with yellow lava, but one looks pretty normal, and the other one gets this really awesome three tone look to it, it's really incredible, more so than any lava lite I've seen. My thrift stores don't have them either, but I'm sure if I went to the more metro areas like Des Moines (I live in Iowa) I may find a few. We're buried in snow today so I don't think that will be happening anytime soon!! Welcome to the addiction, I have yet to win a lamp off ebay, but I'm getting really picky as to what I want. There are some great people on here that will thin out their collections occasionally, it never hurts to ask, lol!! Good luck!
Thus far my tastes are fairly simple! I like the Century model, the Telstars and I want to get a couple of those Aemes lamps with the plastic flower arangement around the bottle! If anyone is selling or thinning out the heard, give me a call!
