Is this lamp missing an important safety part?

Bought this desk lamp used, but didn't realize it was different than what I'm used to. There is a tag on the power cord which states "Do not operate without complete bulb enclosure in place or if lens is damaged."

Please help, if you know:
-What is the bulb enclosure; is it missing; can I easily replace it?
-What is meant by "lens"?
-The ring surrounding the socket appears to have 3 set screws-are these where the enclosure thing goes?
-I believe it takes a G8 100watt halogen...would it be dangerous to operate without the enclosure apparatus, as long as it was closely monitored?IE:is it an explosive hazard?

If anyone happens to be familiar with the lamp in general, please fill me in.  It sure is a heavy thing, stainless steel with an art glass shade.  Mainly though, want to make sure its safe, or if possible how to get it that way.

Thanks for your assistance, and info!

Jus, it looks like where you screw the bulb into is missing for some odd reason.  You can go to any hardware store and buy that part.  You know what I mean.  It has the threads on it for the bulb to screw into.  Now as far as putting it in, I don't like playing with anything electrical, so that's for someone else, lol!!  but I do know you can buy that part.  Sometimes youtube will have videos on DIY things.  I put a new pull string in my ceiling fan and I learned that from youtube.  Well actually my neighbor did it, because again, I don't like playing with that kind of stuff.  Does it take a standard base bulb?  That way you will know what size piece you need for in there.  I don't know what the lens is.....

Jus, that lamp socket and set screw setup looks pretty close to a pendant lamp I have in the kitchen.  Those two holes take a bulb like this. Only touch the bulb with a cloth of some sort, skin oils will really kill the life of the bulbs. I can only guess that the set screws hold a glass dome that goes over the bulb. The lens could also be referring to this glass enclosure that is missing. I know some tracks in my house have glass lenses over the halogens, the bulbs emit a UV light but not going to give you a tan. They probably give you this warning since it is considered a harmful light wavelength  You should be able to operate it without the cover for your bulb, don't let any moisture or splash go near it though, it will pop something fierce! Below is a picture of my pendant to show you what I mean about the glass dome.

From the looks of it, I need to clean that damn lamp AND my hand looks pretty alien in the second shot

LOL

Tried replacing the socket in my other desk lamp...went pow when I plugged it in...which is why I have this new lamp

It uses bulbs like this though. Screw in,I WISH...it would be so much easier!

Sorry Jus, I thought it was missing the threaded part to the lamp.  Yea, a screw type bulb would be much easier!!  I'm from the old school.  Righty tighty, lefty lucy, lol!!!!
