With all of the complaints about poor quality LL lamps from China I thought it would be interesting to note at least a couple of problem USA globes in my collection. Although the problems are different they seem to be coil related.
First, the coil that won't connect. I have tried different things (short of opening the globe and changing it) to get this coil to stay in contact with the wax but to no avail. Just one of those lemons straight from the factory i guess.
If you look closely you will see that the wax wil not embed itself in the coil. Globe is an orange/white #05 from 94.
At least this globe is fixable, just needs a replacement coil.
This next one has no redeeming features, except when dumped I can clean the globe for future use. Don't know where all that junk came from but it sure does look like it's from the coil.
This globe is from 02, USA cap.

I guess it just boils down to the fact that you can get a rotten lemon in any bunch......I just bought a clear liquid/black lava classic lamp at kmart on sale for 8.79 and I have no problems with it at all. At first the flow was boring but after many runs, it's now doing some interesting things so i'm happy. I guess it depends on the person in charge of quality control at these factories also. You know yourself, some ppl are ocd on the job and some just plain don't give a hoot, so that plays a part in it also.
