I created this awesome orange color using a  goo kit and Grande lamp globe and base. This picture gave me a great idea.  I'm going to switch it with a Heritage Grande black base for Halloween and I'll have one of these lamps only in Grande size with little heritage holes which in my opinion is a definite upgrade to this awesome looking eerie lamp.  OM triple GGG!!! Thanks for posting this photo.

Sounds awesome!!!  Post some pics!!!

I just hope that this astro formula is better than the blue clear/blue and the silver yellow/blue I ordered some months ago from them, because they were nowhere near the way astros worked before, in the flow speaking.. They are just bubbling much more like lavaworld lamp. The black clear/black prune was much oozing like a mathmos.

It's really nice making good color combos but in my opinion it's much better to stick to lava quality that made mathmos !

it's just a pity !!!

Fisrt of all, the mathmos french site doesn't offer the same color combos than the UK site for the heritage astros... For an international company, in a (so called) crisis time, it's a questionable choice, either in an editorial way of speaking or in the employees qualification...

Then the same french site, on the contact page, has some kind of (not functional) captcha picture that prevents you to contact them...

WTF mathmos people !!!

I guess quality control is failing on every level!!!

I wonder if I could achieve that color with a good dump of yellow MT dye???

After mailing the french mathmos representative with no luck, I e-mailed mathmos.com and got a quick answer. Here is what we said :

Hello idoru,

We’re sorry you’re not happy with your heritage Astros’ lava flow.  The mix is slightly different for all models and colours and you may find the heritage bottles have a different type of lava flow.  We haven’t made any changes to the mix for existing bottles (Astro, Astrobaby and Telstar).

Kind Regards,

Hi xxxxxx,

If I can understand the need for a company to renew it's product line in order to gain customers, I don't fathom the reason behind giving away what made a company, i.e that particular flow that made Mathmos lamps so special regarding the competition and I don't see why special color combos like the heritage ones couldn't be made with usual lava...If I wanted lava lamps to just bubble I could have bought cheaper ones with a greater color combo range like lavaworld or even much cheaper china product.

Indeed I'm bit disappointed as I own 3 lunars, nearly thirty astros/astros babies/jets/telstar plus one opal fluidium and if the color combo+outfit of the heritage are appealing they are disappointing in terms of flow as they resemble at any other lava lamps when running.

Anyway, I have to think more about purchasing this halloween heritage. If I make up my mind I won't hesitate to come back at you.

Best regards,

Thanks or posting this info. If you can please post a video of this new flow a I an many others would love to see it.

Best regards,

I have to disagree on that... I've bought recently a blue heritage with a clear/blue bottle, a silver one with a yellow/green and a black one with a clear/dark purple (initially advertised as black) : none of them flows like the classic astros/babies or telstars I own. They just bubble, no more that ball of lava in the bottom transforming in that swaying elongated flow of lava, sometimes braking in bubbles dripping back to the bottom, sometimes curling back down. They just bubble, like any lava lamp. The lava goes up to the middle of the bottle then breaks into one or two bubbles, dripping once or twice and that's it, again and again.

On the overheating problem, I now have to agree, the blue and the green had the tendency to do it so I had to put them on a variator as I had a spare for my lunars.

I find really unpleasant that mathmos didn't advertise about the formula change at first as I supect them to throw new products without proper testing. My blue had a nasty lava with chunks in it, I corrected it by let her run a low temperature for 2 or 3 days, now the lava is much better. And I think I won't be buying this orange : If I can find a nice orange old astro, a good paint and I'll have a real halloween mathmos ...

I have to add that oddly, two customers speaking about the same product end to the same conclusion : overheating.. Meaning talk about a product payed for and sold with an evident flaw : how the heritage line, supposedly being some kind of mathmos legacy are sold with lavaworld lava like and bulbs over watted ??

My only conclusion is that mathmos as gain a new place in the consortium of non reliable companies and I won't be buying new product from them without extrem caution. Too bad !

A Mathmos clear/orange Heritage/Halloween black anodized base landed on my doorstep yesterday, a surprise gift from my beloved dear little sister.

I'm blown away by the base and cap alone... silky shiney black  and as VOXul would say...smoooove !

Pics to follow.

Edit... and that's just the base and cap !!!
