Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

New Lava Lite 52oz 'Premier' Purple/Yelllow from Spencer's

Well, about 2 weeks ago I picked up a 52oz Lava Lite 'Premier' lamp from Spencer's, purple fluid, yellow goo, plain metal base. The only reason I bought it was I was at the mall and they had them, and I peeked in the package and saw the globe was clear, and it was cheap at $21. So I brought it home, and surprisingly, it has been quite decent! At first, it flowed quiet slowly, and in huge single blobs; very boring. But since I have been running it 10 hours a day, it has really loosened up and has become quite nice to look at. I did take a video, but I learned the hard way it is a PAIN to try and get proper exposure while recording purple and yellow light. Also, the flow is typically a little better than shown, but I didn't have the patience to wait til it behaved properly. LL must have changed something because the goo does look and act different (better) than the China lamps I have from 2 years ago. It isn't quite the show I get from my USA lamps, but it isn't bad at all. I accidently ran it 12 hours once and 14 another time, and it didn't show any signs of overheating at all in a 70F degree room. Overall, I'm quite satisfied, and this is making me consider ordering a Grande and picking it up from LL's warehouse perhaps (I live 1 mile away from it, in Elmhurst IL). Should I? Thoughts?

Yes the lamp may be better then others (it flows a bit and its not cloudy) but I don't think its worth 21 dolers. - I would recomend saving the money and getting a lava lite USA lamp or a mathmos lamp which has much better flow then that.

I'd say no on the Grande, unless you can see if first before purchasing.

Good to see these lamps are clear, but man, the flow is so boring!

They may be clear, but the flow isnt there. The older usa lamps have long stretchy blobs. Theres usually 4 or 5 blobs moving around in a 52oz lamp. This lamp is shameful.
Beautiful kitty, by the way. :)
