Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I was at a carboot sale recently, nice antiques man said he has a storm lantern & ask me how much should he let it go for...to be honest i couldn't give him a price but did say i was intrested in it.

Can anyone give me a price which they would let one go for.

Its red & red the thumb screws dont have the penny slots it does have the decorative lid to were the pariffin would have went if it was a real lantern. it has green felt on the bottom. btw its not boxed.

I have over 48 lamps & this would be a great addition to my collection even thought the misses keeps roling her eyes...lmao = - )

They're nice lamps and made by Crestworth if the one you're describing is what I think it is. I've the 'Starboard' variety i.e. Green wax. The Port is the red wax variety. These can easily go for 50-60 pounds but i've seen them go for much less and much more so it's hard to say.
Ive not seen it but im aware that its either a crestworth or lava lite, also that there is diffrent generations just like the old crestworth Astro. Thanks to you both for the quick replies = - ) any more help is welcome i.e. if its cloudy how much should i take it for.

I am also aware that so are made of really cheap metal is this true??
I've found these models to be of a reasonable sound quality and not cheap, particularly in comparison to the modern rubbish available today. Replacement globes are available from Mathmos and would enhance your lamp no end (should you wish to buy it). Well worth an investment as is the lamp itself.
I picked one up (Crestworth green variety) on ebay just before christmas for £30. It's in near mint condition, no missing parts and only a 2mm scratch on the base. After a bit of work it flows nicely with the original globe. However all the ones I've seen on ebay since then have gone for £40+, most have been in good condition in terms of the actual lamp, but not working (no flow for one reason or another). I haven't seen another fully working one listed for a while.
It's pretty hard to clear up a very cloudy globe and this would of course affect the value. I would offer him £20 for it as a nice replacement globe will cost you about £27.

Thank you very much to everyone who helped me out by replying, you will I hope be happy to know I got the lamp for an honest £35. The globe is a little cloudy red & red which like a few of my other lamp need filltering. Lol

the lamp screws are not the eairler slotted varation & the fake pariffin spout is on the right hand side. I'm happy camper!
well done, a pretty good buy.
Definately a reasonable price. I'm looking for a matching one for mine and you'd struggle to pick one up on ebay for that price. I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

According to this guy http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3204898754... Mathmos value the coach lantern at £200-500 !!!
Yeah I noticed! I've made him 2 very fair offers on it, but they are way below his valuation!
