Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I bought an American Giant from a local garage sale. Stamp on bottom is Sept 26,
2000. Problem is I think the color from the wax leaked into the
liquid. There's bits of red in the lava while the majority has been
"cooked". I would like to restore it. Want to make the liquid clear
and change the lava to purple using candle dye. I got some info from
the net on how to change to color of the lava. By first removing the
liquid when the lamp is cool. Then melting the wax. After the wax is
melted add candle dye. Let the wax cool and solidify before adding the
liquid. Will this work?

The next step, I'm not positive on how to make the liquid clear. I've
heard of sun bleaching, using a filter pump, or the last resort,
refilling with distilled water, Epsom salt, and dish-washing liquid.
There is also an option of using d. water, propylene glycol and
dish-washing liquid. I want to go with the first option of sun
bleaching to achieve a clear liquid, then change the color of the
lava. Will that work? If not, will the filter pump clear the liquid?

I'm hesitant on making my own liquid, so there may be another option.
If the sun bleaching or filter pump won't work. I might add purple
food coloring to the liquid, and change the wax to pink. Turning it
into a Giant pink lava and purple liquid lamp. This may be the last
option, since I really like purple and clear. But if it won't work,
I'll try making it pink and purple. I've also included pictures of the
Giant for you all to determine if the restoration is possible.

The flow is excellent, but imo the colors are awful.
Looked at the filter pump and discovered it uses a carbon core. I did an experiment with tap water, food coloring and a carbon filter. The conclusion is a carbon filter will not remove the color.

I agree with you Bohdan, attempting to mix my own liquid is not the best idea. I don't want to mess with the flow.

I'm going to sun bleach it and see if that will make the liquid clear.
The filter will remove "some" of the color but not all. Bleaching may or may not remove it as well. It will certainly lighten it, but not fully remove it. I have tried on several lamps.
For purple or pink, I would highly recommend "Neon Food Coloring" Dye (I bought mine from Super Target). Use 2 parts Purple to one part Blue (maybe a dash of pink too) for an identical match to the deep dark violet that usa Lava World ones were like.

If you want several options / shades to try before you PERMANENTLY add to the lamp....add the desired drop combinations into a tall glass of water, or even empty 2 liter soda bottle with the label removed. Once the lamp is flowing, place the bottle on the counter next to the lamp and look through the bottle focusing on the lava flowing, and there you have just tested it! All you have to do is dump the water for a new color mock up to try. I imagine that the Pink or Purple would compliment this wax and make it extremely vibrant! Write down how you achieved that color, and then keep that basic ratio when adding to the actual lava water.
