That's original - they are the early Crestworth lava lamps.
Do you have a photo of the new Telstar?
Thanks Simon,
I would never thought it was original (it looks like a Pepsi bottle cap / soft plastic).
No pics yet as I don't have a correct bulb to fit the base (the above pic is the Telstar bottle on one of my Cosmos bases).
But I will post one soon.
Intresting about the cap - I am sure everything is oringal except the cap - mabie its a repacement one from a previous onwer with the sticker taken off the oringal cap.
I doubt Mathmos used this cap as they never have.
No, this one is 19 cm, the other one is 17 cm.
No felt on this one.

very nice lamp!! so are your two telstar bases the same (except te finish)?
I thought the same as you, before Simon wrotes it's an original cap on early Crestworth.
I guess he must have had one like this before.

I just checked:
the shorter one is also a little larger, so yes it may be a Rocket base :-)
Strange it came to me with a Living Jewel bottle with a Nordic Cap.
And I'm pretty sure it's stock from factory.

but they have the same shape? I still think your other one is a rocket/mk1 base.
telstar 70s bottles as with the nordic's would have had original T shape bottle tops, which were used up till the mid 1990s, the stick on the white top is deffo 90s , when mathmos launch the jet glitter lamps then shortly changed the the metal tops with a built in small bottle top locator which the bottle top would sit in thus then holding the main bottle cap ( lamp top ) again id change that bulb!
So another vote of the classic T shape bottle cap.
Don't worries for the bulb, I was just for a try and that was the only one I've got (it came with a Nordic who was running great with lava).
I will put a correct one soon, or maybe I'll change the socket for an e27 like all my other lamps...
