Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I am new to the group.. My eight year old daughter loves lava lamps .. I picked up one at a junkstore and turns out it's a purple swirl (thanks to this website) he had 3 others and one appeared to be the apparently rare haze ... He had the rest of them in pieces and said he would dig around to see if he had complete sets on them... Question is if he does not is it worth it to buy the bases ?? Probably cheap I got the purple for 8 dollars (lavender water white wax)

If you buy a swirl, or any other colored base, without the cap, you may NEVER find a replacement. Even silver or black caps are only seen available rarely. Getting a matching base and cap without the globe would be OK as globes are easy to come by. There are some globe colors that you don't see very often but most of them are readily available, especially on ebay.

Thanks ..the missing cap thing makes sense. Hopefully he found complete sets ., you guys are amazing .. This is the only website I found with so much information. .. I didn't know they were so collectible.. I can't wIt to let my daughter look at everyone's pictures today
Yeah I would definitely try to not buy any lamp with out a cap .the swirls, marbles and any of the ceramic lamps are impossible to find caps to ,so definitely trying to buy a complete lamp it's worth paying that extra bit more .
Thanks! He opens at 11.. I'm kinda excited.. It's like a treasure hunt ;) his back room was just piled with stuff

Go have fun!  It would be cool if you get a complete haze!  We would love to see pictures of what you find

If a haze swirl is indeed one of the lamps he has, I would gladly make it worth your while on a trade.

Melonie, glad to see the lava bug bit you!!!  I luv this group and it's a blast to share my lava love with other members.  The info on here is unbelievable.  I found this site also by accident when I was goggling "how to clear a lava lamp".  It's then I found out that there is a whole world open to lava, lol!!!  With that being said, I'm still much of a newb myself.  I really didn't know what a Haze was so I looked it up.  This is an older thread from OG, but it shows the different swirls, hazes and safaris.  You might have came across it when surfing the web, I don't know, but this will help identify what you find.  One of my first vintage purchases on ebay was a blue swirl.  Since then, I've found a good bit of purples and a 2 greens.  I was never fortunate enough to find a red or a haze.  I thought I saw a haze in one of OG member's photos??  Hummm...anybody have one???

Here is a pick of my haze swirl.  Tons of OG love to Erin (the rare base) and Lamphead (the equally rare clear/chocolate globe).  Carol - that site you posted looks like the loneliest lava lamp site on the planet.

Edit to add - I do miss Bohdan.  The rest of the lot though, not so much.

Hey Jim, the last post was from 2011, so yea, it's not a happening spot, lol!!  Hope I didn't stir up anything with that link.  I didn't know what a haze was so just goggled pictures of haze lava lamps and that came up!  I saw oozing and didn't even read that it was oozing lava, haaa!!!  I was wondering why it looked kind of weird, lol!!  I'm assuming there was some history to this site way back when.........don't know about that, but it's one amazing site now so that's all that matters.....

P.S.  I knew I saw that haze on here in someone's pics!!!  Amazing lamp, I love it!!!

Nah, you didn't stir anything up.  The core of that site is former OG; they were misbehaving, were inconsiderate of their fellow members and refused to change their ways.  Hardcore Mathmos junkies, which I won't fault them on, but rather intolerant of those of us who were and are still rooting for Lava Lite to turn things around.  We had Lava Lite reps engaged on the site at the time and they did everything in their power to make their stay as miserable as possible.

For me as an American and especially a Chicagoan, that just wasn't cool and it wasn't cool with many on the site.  Although the brand has lost lots of its luster, I still consider it an iconic American and Chicago brand, at least in terms of the product category.  So while many of us were tickled that they actually extended their hand and engaged us on the state of affairs at Lava Lite on the site, the detractors who would leave to form the planet's loneliest lava lamp site mucked up every thread to derail it.

And now you know... the rest of the story.

I kind of figured it was some drama like that, lol!!  Sometimes when I get into searching for things on here, I'll come up with a thread that mentions things that kind of made me think that the site did undergo a revamping for the better.  It's sad though when people are just one-sided with things.  Oh well, it was what it was.....I'm glad to see that OG remains strong, it's such a wonderful site!!!!

You guys are awesome.. So the haze was damaged.. Almost like it had been crushed on one side.. However we got a beautiful blue swirl too and my daughter begged for the last one which I think it is red marble .. Even with no cap.. She said.. I don't care.. It's beautiful.. And I will say this .. The globe is stunning..the red goo is very rich colored almost like a dark cherry .. The blue swirl has blue water white goo... The goo has lots of bubbles in it but flows beautifully... Will post pics today .. I think we are hooked..
