Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I have a Phenomenon II lamp (the smaller 20" version) for which I've just discovered the wrong power supply was supplied.

Can anyone help please with a specific unit as follows (I'll use a stepdown )

input - 120v AC -60 HZ - 500 mA

Output - 24v AC 1500 mA

All help appreciated - many thanks

Why cant you use a uk power supply with 24 volt output?

I think I have a 240 to 24 ac unit, which current rating do you need?

Arne, I'm definitely not an electrician but I know a man who is!

We've found a lot of power units that almost fit but apparently all the five parameters - the 120v, the 60hz and 500ma input, and the 24v and 1500 ma output must match for these plasma lamps

And we've spoken to uk specialists today asking the same question as you about using UK-mains-rated kit, but the answer came back that it was definitely not the best route long-term, it could damage the lamp over time, so I'm going for the original US mains voltage as a starting point, and using a step-down.

I will ask again tomorrow but that's what I was told - I thought the same as you!

go overkill on the amperage output will not harm anything

It will draw only what it needs

Just buy one to power both lamps and add yoru 220V cables to the inputs and (2) 9mm round ones to the outputs

Just got a suitable replacement sorted - many thanks to those who chipped in, on and off the thread - appreciated.
