Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I just purchased a 27-inch lamp, with the wax emulsified, and stuck at top of lamp ...

I have tried to reheat the wax, to get it re-formed into a homogenous glob,

but the 100watt lamp does not melt the wax at top of lamp ...

Should I try a hair-dryer to melt the wax ?

Thanks for your advice !!!

Leave the lamp turned on with a towel wrapped around the upper part of the globe.  These large globes can take a long time to heat up so this could take several hours.  Do not leave lamp unattended because they can get too hot doing this.  After the first two or three hours check it every half hour or so.

Thanks for your suggestion, to wrap a towel around the upper part of the globe ...

I will try your advice, and see if the wax reconstitutes into a homogenous form ...

Wish Me Luck !!!

Good idea, I've heard of the towel method too. For such a large lamp this needs a very long run indeed. Wer'e talking 6 to 10 hours

another method to try (after the towel method mentioned above) is to heat t he globe up until the wax melts, then turn the globe upside down, attempting to get the floating wax to attach to the melted wax.  when it does, let the wax cool, then re-heat.

i had a 52oz yellow/clear globe do this before, but sadly i was not able to get the wax to homogenize.  i ended up removing the floating wax.
