If the globe is dated what no later than 2002? Is this correct? So 2002 and earlier would be usa manufacture? Thanks.

That's basically correct.  There may have been some crossover in 2003 but I'm not sure of that.

Thanks. I found one on eBay, a 02 dated wizard I would like to pick up. NIB

From the seller in Missouri?  They look like good lamps, from the pics anyway.

In fact it is from independence MO. He seems to have a bunch of them for 49 shipped. I bought this one. I like the cool blue with white wax.

I've had my eye on some of those.  Not a bad price at all with free shipping.  That is a USA made lamp.  One thing about shipping, at current temperatures lava globes can freeze or at least get very cold.  Let the globe sit at room temperature for at least a day before heating.

If it is frozen let it thaw and then wait another day.

Thanks for the heads up. I will definitely do that.

Great advice Keith. This is what the Goo community is all about.

I got one of those lamps. I will say that 2002 can be a weird year for globes, too. The one I got from that seller (clear/purple) - the lava does not flow. It heats up but does not go anywhere. I've ran it several times now and no action. I had another globe from 2002 with similar issues several years ago.

No fault of the seller, for sure, but 2002 globes can be weird. I would not hesitate to get one of those lamps if you see a color combo you like. But if there are earlier years, I'd opt for those instead of a 2002 one.

He said in the ad that he tested them. So yours should work. I would contact him and ask for a refund if it does not work. My lamp shows working photos with the lava in action. What would cause wax not to flow?

A lot of sellers consider them "working" if they move at all. The first few mins after the lava is heated up, it throws up a few blobs. But then it just stays in a mound at the bottom.

Per his listing, he says "inspected and tested before listing" and that probably means he ran it for a few mins after it heated up and in his mind, that means it's working.

I don't know what the problem is honestly, but I had another 2002 globe that did the same thing, or something similar.

Got mine this AM and let it set for a few hours to acclimate. It was not frozen and was actually quite warm. I fired it up and it works great. Clear and moves nice. Great lamp.

Ya!  Good to hear.  May it bring you many years of peace, goo, and lavliness.
