Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

WIN A MATHMOS LAMP or Which finish would you like to see on a mathmos base?

Since I still have two or three bases left for project-o-fun I though why not ask the community.
So is there any finish (nothing like platinum plating or covering in real saphires or so please)
you would have liked mathmos to do or you would want to do yourself but dont wanne risk fucking up your precious lamp untill you know it will be as cool as you imagine? Tell me and I'll try. The two or three ones I also like most will be done and I'll make a tutorial how to do yourself if it turns out to be nice.
I cant do stuff like flocking...tried...looks very very...not good! but there are loads of paints, coatings, glitter, or experiments like paints based on different solvents who hate each other I can try

Ok maybe we need some extra spice for this thread...cant belive that there are not more ideas out there...or do you all just take whats given to ya by the big lables out there!?
So if there are some creative people here read this :
As soon as I have 10 valid (possible to do without special machines) suggestions I will pick
one and the member who provides the idea gets a lamp made in a finish of his choice and I will send it for free...

A good idea. Need to get my thinking cap on. What you've done so far is truly amazing. I especially loved those highly polished comets.
thanks, I'm quite pleased too so far. the red comet is just clear coated...looks even better than polished and also makes the anodised finish a little bit more scratch resistend if you choose 2k coat. will re-do the mint/purple comet coz I got black spray dust on it at the cap and didnt notice before clear coating...damn.
Anyway...I had a look and I found a total of 5 complete bases and an astro with missing cap I can use to do what Mathmos used to do back in the glorious 90's....play around, trial and error, do crazy stuff which is uneconomic as hell and a hell lot of fun :)
Following bases do clearly want a makeover:
1 "new" telstar
1 vintage telstar
1 astrobaby
2 comets
...open to suggestions

I like the look of them all... especially the Jardinaire... any kind of iridescent finish would be cool!

Gun Metal Blue would be interesting. Or heat treated chrome.
@Alladin besides the multicolor/silverish spraypaint I will do at least 4 more effect coatings which change colour depending on the angle it has against the light source. There will be a blue-purple-orange greenish, a green-turqoise-blue, a metallic green-metallic blue and a lime green yellowish one oh and I forgis violet-green. some
of the ones on the picture are supposed to be coated that way so still some bases left.
@Critter- I know the gun metal gray the comet and some jets had but I think it looks rather dull...can you show me an example for gun metal blue? maybe I have a wrong impression
Arne, it would be a hard look to achieve with aluminum but blued metal along this line is what I imagine.

It might be possible with chrome plating after the aluminum base were triple chrome plated.

hmm not the look I can imagine to look good on a lava lamp to be honest. How is it made? intense heat or fire? Gonna see if I can finish the cosmos today...cant wait to see how the paint turns out. was a bitch to re model a vintage short cap from a modern bakelite cap...damn formaldehyd gave me rashes and I was wonderin why untill I saw all the dust. lucky me I used mask and safety glasses!
Arne....the look is achieved through heat on Chrome. Imagine the blue color that occurs on motorcycle chrome exhaust pipes near the exhaust manifold. On steel though the look is more consistent and is a bright shiny medium blue and is a liquid treatment that is dipped usually.
Arne:

See this lol for a better idea of the color I had in mind:

As you can see it is a pretty blue and there is variation of the color over the surface. Hard to do but beautiful.
I think thats what I'm about to do now ...will post a pic when done
Just uploaded : color changing cosmos, jet and astrobaby...comet about to be done
Awesome. Colour changing Cosmos. Spectacular!
