Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Here are a series of 6 photos taken of a salt-perc lamp created on 07/16/2010 by doing a ritual sacrifice and proper exorcism on a Lava Lite Royal globe (cap info: H5224 09091701 D). It was a yellow/blue. I bought the lamp for my best friend for Christmas 2009. We both decided we couldn’t bear to look at the crappy flow any longer and decided to do the right thing, euthanize the lamp and put it out of our misery. I had attempted this color combo (red/blue) just once before with a 20oz. globe and that experiment didn’t turn out quite as well as this one. There was considerable cloudiness in the globe. It appeared to be on the glass and not so much in the liquid. I plan to detail how the lamp was created at some point in the near future but thought you all might want to see it here being as it is going to take a little while to do the writeup. There will also be a 6 minute video of the lamp in action on YouTube when the writeup is done. Enjoy!

Hi Charles. I promise a greatly detailed post in the near future. I am unfortunately in the middle of a job hunt. I've been out of work for 6 months now and it's not looking pretty. It's demanding quite a bit of my attention right now. I'm not going to be happy if I lose my Mustang GT because of a dumb layoff. Stay tuned for more!

I'm going to one of these days. Some day, when I acquire a cheap/busted or cloudy lamp I will... I'm only one week in! ;)

Thanks Callisto9. Hoping to make more in the near future. What's not to love about a lamp that works and looks great as well. Try your hand at it if you haven't done so. It's time consuming but oh so rewarding if it turns out well.

Thanks Blind Faith. The pic doesn't do the lava justice. It's a very nice semi-transparent candy apple red. Me an my buddy had a lot of fun making it. This is probably the last one I'll make with salt, opting for propylene glycol in the future. I'm on a mission to recreate the vintage flow of a 70's lamp. I won't stop until I find what I'm looking for. Now, where's my lab coat??!!
