Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Little Boy Blue & Ms. Pink

My most recent 2 goo kits! Trying to capture the "in real life" pink of Ms. Pink proved to be very challenging! I had to shut her down and disable my flash to get her true color. It's pretty close though. Nice soft lighting for my bedside table....I'm very pleased with these 2 kits....

I ran all of mine today because I got my new ones and discovered why my Midnight Starship doesn't work very good. It was an eBay purchase. The Goo only sticks to half of the coil. I put my new neon orange clear in the Midnight Starship base and it ran good. The Blue Liquid Yellow Goo globe from the starship did the same thing in the Clearview base then I noticed the Goo was only sticking to half of the coil. I swirled it as hard as I was comfortable with,  I didn't want to cloud it up. Oh well I guess it will be my first Goo kit :-)

Ya know Vox, I would luv too, but right now, my job is splitting my days off.  I don't get 2 in a row anymore.  This week I'm off today (Monday) and then again on Thursday so time is a big factor here.  Also, I'm thinking for the price it's gonna cost me for the bondo, paint, sandpaper, would it just be worth it to drop that money into brand new bases/lamps.  I was kind of waiting on Jim for that.  Then there is another factor.  What happens if I totally eff up the bases with the bondo job.  Then they look worse then they do now.  lololol!!!  They are in my bedroom.  The dents for now are wallside so I don't get to enjoy the dented view from my bedside, lol!!!  So, gotta tell ya, I really don't know what I'm doing with them yet.  At least I can ejoy the goo'ing for now until I figure something out.  Was also thinking of trying to find some sort of heat resistant laminate that I could use to kind of do a shrink wrap/wrap job.  Although one would prob see a bit of the indentations, I sure something busy would help to hide that, but again, the fact that these bases run hot is a factor for a wrap job.

Are you still breaking out the Bondo job on them Carol?

Not to mention Rick, now i'm worried about buying on ebay again!  As you can see on MY pics, you can turn the bases around some so you don't see the dents as bad.  That one you can really see them, but I didn't really care.  I just wanted to show off the color of the goo.  lol!!

Wow! I hate people that lie. You would think that wouldn't be a problem on an item like a Lava Lamp. What did he gain by lying? Nothing! An extra 5 or 10 bucks or whatever just to get bad feedback and have to give a refund anyway. How stupid. He just should have been honest, showed the damage and sold them as fixer uppers. Some people! Sorry you got cheated.

Good one Rick as far as those globes go!!!  I don't know what happened to them or what this guy did to them.  Honestly, the pic on ebay didn't look all that bad.  Even a few members commented that "maybe" I could salvage the goo.  When I got them, that's the shape they were in!  The bases and caps were terribly dented.  I straightened the caps as best I could with a spoon, but unfortunately the bases are still dented.  I have them in my bedroom and they are just for family viewing, I put the dents wallside so you can't really notice them, so for now until I come up with either a bondo, paint job, or some other idea, they will have to stay like that.  I find myself focusing on the flow of the goo and not so much the dents anymore, so my OCD has calmed about these lamps.  You know Rick when you crack open an LL lamp, the china ones anyways, there is a distinct smell.  I associate it with petroleum, but not sure what it is.  These didn't have that smell.  One actually smelled like "salt water".  The goo wasn't even wax.  It was like soft and mushy like pudding.  I think this guy attempted to make his "own" lava lamp goo and it went horribly wrong so he sold them on ebay as "cloudy" lamps.  I thought the bases were damaged in shipping, but now I see how one can hide the dents on camera as I have in the above pics somewhat.  The camera isn't always truthful, so I have since filed a claim against him on Paypal for the item not coming as described.  I have his emails where he tells me that the bases are free of dents or dings.  I also have my pics of that being untrue.  So he has until October something to respoind to my paypal claim.  If he doesn't agree to a refund I will escalate my claim.  Shame dishonest people like that give one a bad taste in their mouth for ebay purchases.  Anyway, I bought straight up Acetone to clean them Rick.  The only other step would have been muriatic acid and I really didn't wanna go that toxic.  EVEN after THAT, I still had to fluid change the blue 3 times to get the brownish haze out of the globe.  There still is a hairline scratch in the glass of the pink and a permanent (what looks to be a finger smudge) of some sort on the blue, but it is what it is.  So that's my lava lamp horror story, lol!!!  Maybe they were in a fire though.  I was going to blow torch the suckers!!!

P.S.  I know he turned those lamps in his ebay listing pics because the cord in the pic is not shown coming out of the back, but the side.  That is how you have to place the base for the dent to be in the back and hidden out of the pic.  Now I know what he did to had the imperfections.  He couldn't hide the cloudy goo though, so he was honest about that.  The ONLY thing he WAS honest about, but I didn't care because I bought them for my goo kit project anyway.
