the wax never turned opaque, but it formed lots of bubbles.  i ended up dying the wax yellow to see if it would hide the bubbles, but it did not.  i dumped the wax and went with kirk's glitter.

not sure on how to replicate a blue/blue mathmos, but i'd start with some blue dye from goo kits.  as for the blue liquid, i'd skip the food coloring.  the water color is washed out toward the light.  maybe experiment with highlighter fluid as it seems to create a more uniform color throughout the globe.  good luck!

Hey Brad, whatever happened to this lamp? Did the lava turn opaque?

Also, I see that you have a Mathmos blue/blue. I want to try to replicate that in a grande with a GooKit... Any tips? I'm new to GooKits.

i will note that the wax is still translucent and there are still tons of small bubbles in the wax.  how long does it usually take for the goo kit wax to turn opaque and lose the bubbles in a grande?

thanks!  just add a few drops of food coloring.  in this photo i added 2 drops of neon blue.

I've not tried a goo kit yet.  How did you color the water without modifying the specific gravity of the liquid?  Seems adding anything to the water would throw off the balance.  It does look awesome!

update - the wax is still translucent, so i'm still waiting for it to become opaque.  it's taking much longer with the grande than the 52oz lamp for obvious reasons.  the final modification will be a rotary dimmer switch installed on the back of the base near the cord.
