Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

So, this happened. Turns out you can't run a 40W bulb in a Gemlite with a plastic base. And, I only noticed this when I had picked this up from the floor after knocking it off the shelf. :-/

Wood should work just fine...I was thinking of that too :) Check by the wood trim section of your Lowes, Home Depot etc, they have some pieces that are pretty close already

Great minds eh? I bought a Hunter glitter with no base the other day, (stupid charity shops throwing out untested electrics, grumble, grumble) so now I have to get creative making a good looking base for it.

That's kinda what I was thinking Newnham.

If you just want a usable base that is heat resistant, why not just model one in MDF with any additional lugs etc that you need and then spray it for a good looking finish? Its how you'd make a prototype mock-up.

JIM! Where have you been?! I like the tab base, too. Much better approach. I have attempted to JB weld the seam back together, so I'll let you know how that goes. I thought about redoing the base and cap with wood stained black. Do you think that would work?

They made the bases 2 different ways ..

I much prefer the tab, I have 1 of each. Dont feel bad Erin, one of my bases is melted too :(

I have a way of making new ones but I haven't gotten around to it..plastic molding kit. Im just not sure how they would hold up.

Nope, just the cork at the top of the glass. I now need a new cork/stopped, lid, base and need to fix a seam on this lamp. One of the tacks on the metal seam broke when it fell.

Did the glass break?
