Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Quite a unusual item I found on Ebay recently.

I have tried to find info on it but there isn't much - i know its made in china and was probably a limited released christmas gift things that come and go.

The vase is a nice designer piece I picked up at a charity shop.

arne, mosser glass rocks! i collect vintage glassware and mosser makes some killer repros of the old stuff like jadeite and vaseline glass.

I will add it to my to paint list, I will have to do some thinking about what is the best way to paint it.

Arnie - the height of the whole thing is 40cm, the diameter  of the wheel is 20cm. Floussent tubes they have around a 8000 hour lamp life there is also a life to the starters as well theses often don't last as long as the tubes, and it also depends on how you use the tubes. - A lot of running at low power or turning on and off a lot can reduce the lamp and starter life

Yea I have thought about painting it, black would be nice as it goes with the colours of the oil and besides I don't like this silver colour as it always looks cheap.

The vase is ceramic but highly glazed and designed by Ben de Lisi I found it at the charity furniture shop I volunteer at. - There has been some funky items, I was surprised that no one else brought the vase. It was only me and one of the managers who was interested in it he likes kitish items and lava lamps as well.

Yea I do like glass items especially glass paper weights but I don't know if I have the money to start collecting them as well.

btw, is the vase a holmegaard? think I've seen that shape somewere...nice one, I have a total fetish for glass items of all kind...if you love glass too, maybe check for moser glas on ebay germany...some very nice shapes and postage is very affordable from germany to uk...the small purple vase in my shroomy glitter pic is moser...found it on a fleamarket for a few € :-) damn I'm chatty today...should I smoke less? lol

how big is it? from what I see I'd guess about twice or 2,5 times (diameter) as big as an oil wheel...? do you have any idea about the lifetime of flourescent tubes? I dont know if its the tubes themselves that wear off or if its just the starting unit that has a date on it...anyway this is a stunnig lamp! Have you thought about modding it? I bet it looks very nice with a black body instead of silver...better contrast and I think it matches other items like lava lamps better as (IMHO) the silver body distracts a bit from the wheel thingy. dont wanne be a nagger though...jus love to play around and make things unique :-)

All it says on the label is made in China and imported by Benross Marketing Ltd, they are a UK import company importing items from China.

I have emailed the seller to see if he knows any more about it but all he said was that it was brought from Littlewoods (a catalogue shop) some time ago, also it didn't come boxed so I don't have the packaging to go on.

Arnie - yes its exactly like a oil projection wheel except bigger, the light sourse is a circular flousent tube.
