The Humongo was released before the colossus. They featured German hand-spun globes and were poured in the US, like Giants. You can tell it is a Humongo based on the elongated top cap and the base, notice the polished look which resembles that of pre-china silver bases. Additionally, the more recent Chinese Colossus lamps had bases that more or less completely resembled Grandes/Giants. The Humongo had a slightly smaller top cone on the base as yours does. Of course, I do understand that Haggerty/Lava World did in fact commission a lot of custom work, so it is possible this was done at some point before or after the Humongo release. See the image attached from steele supply company (lavalites.com) of the Humongo. Notice how it resembles your base.
ACK! I saw this lamp on Craigslist. Congrats on scooping it up. At least it went to a fellow collector. Definitely a US Humongo.
I was wondering that, or maybe a custom that Lava Lamp decided to put into production.
They should of made screw on caps like this for all Colossus lamps.
Maybe you have an early Colossus prototype?
