If it doesn't flow right try Voxuls' suggestion.  If it does flow to your satisfaction I would say leave well enough alone.  The white residue "shouldn't" be visible in the flowing wax but you never know.  

I personally think the white residue is in fact broken down wax solids.  I have tried melting the wax back together and it seemed to work for a while but it settled out again.

Thanks for the info. I'm guessing the white wax is what gives the lava the opaque look when flowing. As of right now the lava looks translucent like the newer lava and not at all like the vintage lava. Just ran it for the first time today, will see what happens after a few runs.

It could be the wax separating. If after running it, and it completely cools, a large chunk of wax that hangs up top that WILL NOT sink even with a slight jiggle, the light material has separated from the heavies. You can bring the fluid level way down and run it hot for a little while and sometimes get the materials to remix. Save the fluid though as you will refill with it once the wax re-blends and cools into one puck again.
