It is purple when lit up.  The pic that you said you wish you could see in person is the same lamp lit up.  This is just a shot of it turned off....but with the flash on.

 It looks more blue in the pic but the liquid is actually purple.....this might be a cold shot that i took when just turning the lamp off while it is still in full flow or during the day.  I don't remember, lol!!!  You can make one of these Kaity...it's pretty simple but you have to find a globe that you want to dump...

yep.  Mt goo is white.  I used purple food coloring but not McCormick.  I used the kind that you refill a cake decorating gun with.  Got it at Michael's Arts and Crafts store.
