Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I don't really collect rain lamps any more... but I suppose I do, if I find one of the models I really love. Here are the ones I like the most. Description in comments below.

The Lamp Caretaker, I've collected rain lamps on-and-off for about 25 years. An Old Country Mill rain lamp, be it Creators or Johnson, even in mint condition, is not typically going to fetch more than about $120, on a good day. I sincerely hope you get $200 for it, but please don't expect that.

No need to buy special Rain Lamp Oil. Go to a drugstore and buy mineral oil. Some claim glycerin, but it is mineral oil. Bortzoil used to sell bottled "Rain Lamp Oil," complete with an illustration of No. 17 above but with the Venus figure as on No. 18, illustrated on the bottle. It was expensive... and, yes, was just mineral oil. However, an eBay seller has come up with blacklight-responsive oil, and if you want that (make sure you use a CFL, not incandescent, blacklight bulb) eBay is your only source.

I have The Old Grist Mill with spinning water wheel in MINT condition.  Unlike others the roof and surroundings actually look wet like its been raining on them as they should if the mill was getting rained on.  Very cool affect i added after i purchased the lamp using a special Professional Diamond Glaze which gives objects a shinny wet look like water is sitting on it only after I gently hand washed the entire lamp. Glaze is clear so it does not affect original colors etc. Outside of lamp has been resprayed with a clear Krylon glaze so it looks brand new. If anyone is interested in purchasing I would be glad to post photos here. I've not seen a better looking Grist Mill on Ebay and YES the wheel spins once aligned as in it has a sweet spot- once you find it the wheel spins freely.  It's been cleaned inside and out. Runs excellent. You can purchase the oil on Ebay.   Bidding will start at 200.00 and does not include shipping.  It's not that heavy once oils drained -35.00 to ship.  It does come with a hanging chain that is over 15' long.  It's about 30'' long from tip to bottom ring.  USA buyers only.

I picked up a really cheap feeling rain lamp for $15 recently.  These lamps are usually heavy, no?

I've always had a serious liking for these lamps until I purchased one and noticed dust and pet hair stick to them like flies to glue strips so it was given away.  I miss my rain lamp. When I was a kid my parents frequented a SIZZLER SteakHouse and they had several of these lamps throughout the restaurant.  I could have cared less about SIZZLER'S Steak and Shrimp special and only wanted to tag along so I could these magical lamps again.  Such wonderful memories. Always managed to keep me well behaved.  Then I would get home and beg for something to eat because all my time was spent mesmerized. I also miss SIZZLER SteakHouse.

Where can you get replacement pumps for these?  When I got mine the pump was brittle and broken.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.  It is the small chrome bottom and top with clear goddess lamp.

I have the Rain lamp pictuered above # 8, "oriental lady holding a bowl of flowers" it appears to be in excellant condition if not mint condition. Does anybody know the value of it?

And of course in the 90s with Creators out, you also had Exotic Sands, Inc.
