Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

This is sooo creepy that it 100 percent looks blue, but this is my violet lamp warming up on day 3 after kitting. I can't believe how much lava it looks like is in this thing before it gets flowing, lol!!

Orono! Pretty Purple. I know what you mean about the colors being off in pics.

No Rick, it's kind of funny because if you look at the title it's my VIOLET kit!!! LOL, That lamp is actually the most beautiful shade of violet!  I know ppl won't believe me, but the way the flash and the lighting in the room were that day, it actually made it look the most juicy shade of blue!!!  I wouldn't mind one that color either!!   This pic also opened up a whole new thread on how sellers deceive on ebay by the way the lighting captures lamps in pics and vids.  Here is what this lamp really looks like in real life!!!

Carol you should be able to find heat shrink tape or tubing at home improvement stores, or order online.  I had forgotten about that method and have not tried it but it should work on any size globe if you start out with the right size stuff.

Dang. Wheres is my head today. I meant put them in the sun to fade them. This is making me laugh!

LOL! I know what you mean. Sometimes the liquid will fade. Some even put there globes in the shade to fade them! I rotate my lamps alot,, and i said before, ive never tried to reopen one. Well, if i dont hold them upside down, it was something i just brought up on problem cap necks that were broken or chipped. I also should have said not all these bottles have threads but have lips.

Jack, once you put that on, then you can't reopen right?  See that's another problem.....with the way I run my gookits, i'll probably end up reopening them in a year's time and either adding more dye to the goo, changing the fluid or just doing a while regoo.  I was running them pretty much 15 hours a day, but now that i'm back to work, it's lessend to about 8 or 9.  I do dim them once they start running hot, but still.  I don't want anything permanent but I need a seal so as not to have them fogging up with that stupid condensate on the inside of the globe.  You know my daughter's old Wiz has that.  I wonder if there is s leak in the cap and air is getting in there somehow.  It was never opened and it doesn't leak so I don't know what caused it in that globe. hummm......

Sometime Carol I put some DAP auto/marine sealent on the inside of the cap and around the threads lightly on some of my opened bottles. Ive never tried to undo one yet though.

oooops, sorry for the double post.....where do you buy that at?  Hardware store like Lowe's, Ace, Home Depot?

Rick, the goo kits are my fav lamps!!! I luv the flow and the fact I can custom make my own colors.  My only problem is trying to seal these stupid 52 oz china lamps with the crimp tops.  I may have to invest in a cap sealer, but for a "few" projects do I want to have that big thing laying around???  I may take my globe to Michael's and see if they have any plans on how to reseal these things.

Keith, have you tried that heat tubing on regular size lamps like 20 oz'ers, 32's and 52's?  I don't mean YOU per se, but do you think it would work on the smaller lamps?  Also, what type of heat?  Will a blow dryer work?
