"It can be cause from having a dirty lamp wall inside. I've replaced the fluid in some and if I didn't clean the inside of the lamp it would adhere just like this."

Second hand relic that was going to be scrapped. Worked well for a while then the lava started to cake on the glass.

Just checked out you discussion and I can see now it's not a Hunter Sata-lite model nor Mathmos or Crestworth. It's china made which aren't great quality but do flow pretty well. Longevity is the real issue and as with all lava lamps, sadly it only has a finite existence. Goo(d) luck with your repairs.

Hey, what type of lamp is it? Looks like a 'Hunter Sata-Lite bottle in your avatar pic. I could be wrong though. Have you tried running it for several hours? and i mean several, like say 10? Give it a go and see what happens. Also is the coil sitting in the right position under the wax? Check it out. Jerome (Alpha Centauri)
