"That's a stone cold bummer!   I think you could probably get the cap off without it breaking further if you needed to, but getting it back on tight enough might be the problem.  If it doesn't leak I would leave it alone…"

"You should be able to just press the coil ends back together.  I've had to do that before without any problems.  Also you can use a long wire with a hooked end to get the coil out without draining the globe, just heat it to melt the…"

"This is what to look for regarding overheating.  If your lamp is overheating and you have the proper bulb you may need to use a dimmer to adjust the flow.  Also your room temperature could be to warm, Lava lamps do best in rooms between 70…"

Profile Information

Something Interesting About Me:
I am 45, will be married 23 years in January, and expecting our first child January!!! Yeah!!
I and my wife are very commited Christians who believe in Jesus with everything that we are. We also believe in the workings and gifts of the Holy Spirit. (Our expected son is a miracle child that the LORD had promised us beforehand, Praise HIS NAME!!!)

I had two Lava Lamps in the '70s. One got broke (don't move them hot, especially with the cord dragging) The other I got curious about and started playing with the goo. The empty glass does not hold your interest too long.
My wife and I bought a brand new lamp in 1991, white base yellow/yellow.
Since 2004 I have bought many lamps, sold a few when we moved out of California to Oklahoma (some I wish I hadn't) and bought a few more.
Right now, I have eight lamps on display, and five or six packed away (I might use a few for projects, now that I have been inspired here).

Recent additions:
I pick up a Pink Swirl with a white/pink globe and a Lava Telephone with a white/blue globe at a yard sale. They cost 6 dollars total! Both seem to have seen little use. The white/blue globe was near perfect from the start. The white/pink globe was cloudy at first, but is now very clear with a great flow.

3 lamps, plus a purple glitter globe! A 32 oz. midnight red/yellow (black cap missing); a "crayon", white/clear with black base and cap; a red/yellow cylinder and black base (no cap, not LW) and the LW glitter globe. At a thrift store, 20 dollars total!

20 lamps now!

A flame that once burned bright has been extinguished.  A light that has guided me for all of my 50 years.  Taught me how to be strong and gentle, caring and firm.  Showed me how to love life and take joy in the little things.

Goodbye Daddy, see you on the other side.

Why I like lava lamps

My reply to http://oozinggoo.ning.com/forum/topics/why-do-you-like-lava-lamps? , I think I'll just leave this here ;)

The ever-changing interplay of motion and color.  The steady, patient rise to the top, a brief rest then back down for a rest at the bottom.  Light and glowing underneath with a shadow at the top, shading from dark to light, and light to dark.…

Lamp repair 2 (separated wax)

Posted on June 11, 2010 at 12:53pm 1 Comment

I was on a roll a couple of weeks ago and repaired 3 lamps in about 1 hour. (plus time for the wax to melt) The first 2 were coil problems (see my blog http://oozinggoo.ning.com/profiles/blogs/lamp-repair ) I had to pop the top on both of those and remove the coil. The first one had to be cleaned and I was able to do it cold. The second one had to be untwisted and I had to melt the wax to get the coil… Continue

Lamp repair

Well I finally took the plunge and decided to open and repair a few lamps. It was actually not hard at all. I had just found a lamp at a thrift store that was in bad shape, but for $4.00, i figured if I couldn't fix it, at least I would have another base and a globe to work with in the future.

First thing to do is get all of your tools and supplies ready! Flat bottle opener,…

Keith thank so for that picture. Yosemite is so gorgeous, I'm definitely getting there someday. Never been off the east coast. My first trip will probably be to Colorado - wink wink. Either that or a straight up road trip, stopping everywhere we want after I finish college.

Hi Keith!  My daughter will be 7 in December!  Parenting is quite the adventure, huh!?  I see your still lava lamping!  I took a break for a while and now am back and obsessed as ever.  Don't know why these lamps make me so happy!  How is your family doing?  We are good-I have a 4 year old as well so they keep me busy!  Nice to hear from you!
