I'm posting here mostly for whatever advice can be provided, and so I'll have some people to share my project with.

I suppose I'll start with the bottle I'm using for a globe. It's just an old Bombay Sapphire bottle that had been laying around my house for a long time, thought it would make for a sweet lava lamp.…

Obviously I needed a base and cap. I thought a wooden one would look pretty dope so I set out to find some wood. Luckily a house down the street was getting remodeled, so I was able to snag some pretty decent boards from the big ol' dumpster thing.

Unfortunately It was riddled with nails that I had to pull out. One of which I couldn't remove, and I'm going to leave it there for the top of the cap. Think of it as a beauty mark. :)

Here is the wood after I got it cut into the squares I needed.
The second link below is the two different stack patterns I want to try for the base/cap.

Also last but not least are the electrical components, and the wax that I plan on using.
A 25 watt lightbulb with fixture from Lowes, and some pretty pink wax from Hobby Lobby.

Sorry for the super long post, and all the imgur links, but it seemed the best way for me to do this.
