Thanks to Dr. What & LampHead, I decided I was gonna try to create a metallic lamp & take lots of pictures to document it, even if I screwed it up! Thanks to Dr. What & LampHead, I decided I was gonna try to create a metallic lamp & take lots of pictures to document it, even if I screwed it up! So, here's a bit of a how to guide & ALL suggestions, tips & comments are encouraged!<br/><br/>Let's start with a list of supplies I used. <br/><ul style="font-weight: bold;">
<li style="text-align: left;">52 oz. Century Screw cap globe</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Large glass pitcher</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Large base</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">2 sets of pliers</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Plastic wrap</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">2 Permanent silver Sharpie markers</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Funnel <br/></li>
<li style="text-align: left;">1 inch plastic baking spatula</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Paint stick</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Paper towels</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Rubber bands<br/></li>
</ul>
Here's my workspace, covered in paper. I decided to do this in our Smokers Man Cave, because the plant stand had great light & plenty of elbow room!<br/><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3149138219?profile=original"/></p>
<br/>I washed & rinsed the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Glass Pitcher</span>. Just to be safe, I rinsed it again with boiling water, placed it upside down on paper & allowed it to air dry. This was to ensure no lint would contaminate the master fluid.<br/><br/>I opened the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Globe</span> & placed the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Plastic Spatula</span> into the fluid, slightly pressing into the wax.<br/>
<p style="text-align: left;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3149138169?profile=original" alt=""/> This will prevent the wax from moving during drainage.<br/></p>
<br/>While holding the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Spatula</span>, I drained the fluid into the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Coke Glass Pitcher</span>. <br/><p style="text-align: right;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3149138465?profile=original" alt=""/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">It foamed while poring, I think I should have done it slowly. I used <span style="font-weight: bold;">Plastic Wrap</span> to prevent evaporation.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3149138510?profile=original" alt=""/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><br/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">It wasn't as easy as I thought, the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Spatula</span> wouldn't release the wax that attached to it! So, I used the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Paint Stick</span> to scrape the wax off of it. Some of the waxy bits got on the glass, I just hope it doesn't attract the rest ;) <br/></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3149138492?profile=original" alt=""/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><br/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">I placed the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Globe</span> on the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Base</span> & turned it on. Since it was gonna take a bit, I figured I could crack open the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Sharpie Marker</span>. I was surprised how easy it was. I used the <span style="font-weight: bold;">pliers</span>, one set to grab the plastic, silver part & the other set of pliers to grab the gray bottom. A bit of squeezing, twisting, pulling & pop, pop, pop it was apart.<br/></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3149138500?profile=original" alt=""/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">All that is needed is the ink reservoir, so I tossed the rest in the trash. I wrapped the ink in plastic wrap, because I didn't want silver fingertips!<br/></p>
<p style="text-align: right;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3149138604?profile=original" alt=""/> <br/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><br/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The wax took 40 minutes to melt completely. Time to add the ink!<br/></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3149139944?profile=original" alt=""/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><br/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">I placed the Globe on the paper & milked the ink out of it's reservoir. It dripped into the wax, laying an interesting coating on the top. One marker wasn't enough, so I opened the second one & repeated the act.<br/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3149140454?profile=original" alt=""/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The ink also dripped down the inside of the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Globe</span>! So, I wrapped the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Spatula</span> with a <span style="font-weight: bold;">Paper Towel</span> & secured it with a <span style="font-weight: bold;">Rubber Band</span>. I rubbed the inside of the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Globe</span> with the contraption & got it clean again.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3149140437?profile=original" alt=""/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><br/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">I twisted the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Globe</span> to mix the ink in, yet it wasn't doing much good.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3149140877?profile=original" alt=""/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">But placing it on the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Base</span> did wonders!</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><br/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">So, now with the wax & ink done, it was time to cool down. I just let it sit an hour or so.<br/></p>
<p style="text-align: right;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3149141040?profile=original" alt=""/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Once it cooled solid, I used the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Funnel</span> to pour the master fluid into the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Globe</span>. <br/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3149141056?profile=original" alt=""/> After I secured the top, I ran it for an hour & let it sit overnight.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><br/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">This afternoon, I fired it up. I planned on the clouding... But the wax seperated from the coil!<br/></p>
<br/>
<p style="text-align: right;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3149141123?profile=original" alt=""/><br/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Nothing but Silver Ink on the bottom!<br/></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3149141179?profile=original" alt=""/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">I opened it up & pushed the wax down with my trusty <span style="font-weight: bold;">Spatula</span>!<br/></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3149141198?profile=original" alt=""/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">So, I boiled some water, placed the Globe in a pan & filled it up. I let it sit for 20 minutes.<br/></p>
<p style="text-align: right;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3149141319?profile=original" alt=""/> It melted nicely.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3099819681?profile=original" alt=""/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><br/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">I placed the Globe on it's Base & turned it on. 30 Minutes & I had GOO!<br/></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3099820181?profile=original" alt=""/></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3099819602?profile=original" alt=""/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The flow on this lamp has never been great, so I thought it was a good candidate for this trial. I'm thinking of adding more ink, to give it a metal feel. For now, I'm happy with the result!<br/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3099820223?profile=original" alt=""/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><br/></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Hope this helps anyone that is interested in creating this effect. I had a great & easy time doing this! Have fun everyone!<br/></p>

The anxiety that consumes you, while waiting for the package. You know what I'm talking about. Whether it's from an online retailer, an eBay auction, or a trade with a Goo Head. The anticipation of a pending delivery can rival the antics of a drug addict!<br/><br/>It begins with the Seller. Questioning them, repeatedly, about the item being sent. Then the tracking number... Triple-checking it daily to watch it s-l-o-w-l-y progress to your destination. Finding that your package is currently sitting in a facility or truck, not 50 miles from your home... on a Saturday! You contemplate calling the carrier & driving to claim your prize, the sole reason for your current, yet temporary, OCD. You come to your senses & decide that you can wait till Monday.<br/><br/>Then the paranoia sets in... Is my package in a truck? Currently cooking, flowing, possibly ruining itself? How reliable is UPS (<span style="font-weight: bold;">U</span>mm... <span style="font-weight: bold;">P</span>artially <span style="font-weight: bold;">S</span>hattered), USPS (<span style="font-weight: bold;">U</span>nder <span style="font-weight: bold;">S</span>tones, <span style="font-weight: bold;">P</span>ossibly <span style="font-weight: bold;">S</span>haken), or FedEx (<span style="font-weight: bold;">F</span>ear <span style="font-weight: bold;">E</span>verything's <span style="font-weight: bold;">D</span>estroyed <span style="font-weight: bold;">E</span>ventually <span style="font-weight: bold;">X</span>-factor)?!<br/><br/>Sunday night, sleep is impossible. Your mind is overloaded with placement plans, bragging rights, delusions of busted boxes...<br/><br/>The day has arrived, the package has not :( You attempt to keep busy, though the preoccupation of the package lingers. Running for the door, like a puppy left home alone, everytime you hear a truck within a 2 block radius, checking the tracking number... again.<br/><br/>Wait a minute... Is that a box? It's here? IT'S HERE! WOOT!<br/><br/>You gingerly carry the package to a safe spot, barely containing your Christmas-like jubilation, as you begin to open your "new" toy. The sweet moment of relief, as you discover the contents are intact. You place the beloved item in it's determined position & plug it in.<br/><br/>The wait is over, at least, till next time :D<br/><br/><div style="text-align: center;"><p><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3149138483?profile=original" alt=""/></p>

So, I'm sitting here watching a Grande, an Aristocrat & my new Dexter lamps beginning to flow. I began thinking this is the most Goo I've seen in 3 years... As much as I lived for the Oozing Goo community... way back when, I hadn't visited since my Husband's MS diagnosis in '06. I quit buying Lava, packed up all 52 lamps & moved us to my Momma's. I kept a few out, The Beatles ceramics, the Grandes... but I never turned them on. We adjusted to our 7 ft. by 20 ft. room, learned to live…
We adjusted to our 7 ft. by 20 ft. room, learned to live with other folks & tried to keep a smile on our faces.<br />
But a couple months ago, it hit me. Three years... It took two years to complete the Rainbow!<br />
<p style="text-align: left;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3149138487?profile=original" alt="" width="455" height="287"/></p>
That's a long time to be away from friends. Not to mention the 52 are packed in the basement, just sitting there! I came back to OG to sell a lamp four months ago and I haven't stopped since! I've been pulling deals, setting the lamps on to Goo & meeting new folks, as well as celebrating the old GooHeads!<br />
Three lamps on... Three years with none... Too damned long!<br />
The Goo brings a smile to my Husband's face, though he hates how much I'm at OG. But when the Grande spikes, he soon forgets the alienation he felt, earlier when I was "chatting" with OG'ers. I don't mean to get lost in this world of Goo<p style="text-align: left;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3079516204?profile=original" alt="" width="117" height="127"/></p>
it just happens! I'm trying to be attentive, to everyone in my life, so I want to say thank you... to all of you who make this site worth coming to.So... I'm back with yearly update!tag:oozinggoo.ning.com,2009-03-23:1566398:BlogPost:834692009-03-23T21:59:35.000Z☆VixenGypsy☆https://oozinggoo.ning.com/profile/VixenGypsy

A week later, It got warm, Hubby went out into the yard, slipped and dislocated his Good foot from his leg, also fracturing his ankle. No pain felt! Yikes!<br />
Called my ASM, quit my job!<br />
So, this week, I dug out my Camel 52oz., 'cause I couldn't find a freaking 52 Clear/Black!<br />
Then I came to visit...
