Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Some members here have a certain sense of loyalty to LL despite their current production quality. ( kind of like rooting for one of your favorite sports teams despite whether they are winning or losing ) We sometimes seem to forget how much joy this company has given all of us. Despite the new, cater to the younger crowd less expensive lamps, we all know by now how easy it is for us to get our hands on the older stuff if we are diligent in searching them out.

Bashing every new lamp that hits the shelf, albeit usually a correct analysis, gets old. Do you really think all the bitching and moaning will change quality or the targeted demographic? It's a new season, money talks and profit is king. That's a given. Collectors are a minority, plain and simple. I think LL knows all too well that producing a more expensive "quality" lamp will appease a few but leave their books in the red. It is a business after all and as you all saw from the 50th anniversary clips that LL is still alive and well as is. Let's face it, the younger generation doesn't even know the difference in what a good quality USA lamp is from a recent China. Hell, I didn't even know before I joined here. I was actually happy with some of my 20 ouncers. Not anymore. In fact sometimes I wish I was still a bit clueless and content.  A happier place so to speak

. You may say...well Mathmos still produces good quality lamps and are obviously thriving. I can't answer to why that is. UK customers obviously still have a deeper appreciation for their countries "original" creation. Most American's mindset is that the Lava lamp went out in the 70's. Different mindset = different demographic. You can't sell an expensive US lamp to an indifferent US customer base and turn a profit. Just my observation.

I remember being puzzled when I first joined OG and found out that there had been a recent division here amongst members. I couldn't understand for the life of me why people would argue and fight over lava. Couldn't wrap my mind around it. Now it has become all too clear. As a result of all the BS drama, the LL bashing has recently driven off yet another one of our most loyal members here. I understand that everyone here has a right to their opinion concerning the LL vs Mathmos debate but when it starts to cause division and hard feelings, then it's gone too far. There are ways to convey your opinion or preference without making someone else feel that they have to defend theirs.

Call it corny but I for one will give proper respect to a company that has added to my life. For making my world a more beautiful place to live. I won't focus on all that's wrong, but choose to focus on all that was right. Even if the lamp has to come from the past. As in the words of our very own lala, "make lava not war."  Peace and love gooheads. ♥

Glad you haven't seen it Stephen. As it should be. As for the member who left...he's still around. Just taking a hiatus. I hate drama and that word shouldn't even be in the same sentence with Lava. Peace out...

I frequently journey to this site once or twice a day to see various pics of lamps and the feedback that is presented about new products or even how to fix. While I have seen a difference of opinions that are voiced I can't se

If it's the member I'm thinking of (BlindFaith), I don't believe he left because of LL bashing.

If it's who I'm thinking, loyalty was not in question. ;-)

So who was "one of our most loyal" members that left after an argument? Not so loyal after all...

BTW, that 60 watt did the trick on the 52 oz. red gitter.  Moving right on now, but takes a while to warm up really well.  Did you try it?
