btw, re The Lamp Caretaker's point about the fan action, actually the Galaxy was designed with a hole in the base of the spray Dome which you were supposed to position exactly above the fan, so the strands would move in the air currents - which were gentle enough not to damage the fibres. You'll find this in the original instructions.

The fan blows air out of the lamp to keep it cool. If it blew the air into the lamp the glass fibers would sway and break. This is the reason the blades of the fan are in the down position so it sucks the air out of the lamp. Fantasia fiber optic lamps do the same thing. They blow air out of the chrome ball to keep the lamp cool otherwise the lamp within would keep overheating and blow. On occasion he appears on eBay selling his replacement discs. He even makes custom discs with funky colors.
Ill try the novus polish, luckily the scratches are only very light and do not show in dark, also told to try tooth paste or UPVC polish, I will try round the back on a small area.

Have now tried the fan both ways round and adjusted the blades but not a lot of movement.

From experience, Novus polish works wonders for removing scratches from the dome; it made my Dad's one look like new!

I beleive the fan blows into the dome from memory but i could be wrong on that one.

Good luck on restoring your Galaxy!
