"I hope someone gives you a better solution, but this is the best method I know of. (you may be able to boil the globe. never tried. can not recommend. wait to see if anyone else can verify) 1. Store the master fluid 2. melt / store wax 3. clean…"

Mathmos Astro - sticking wax?

I touched on this in another thread, but with that now ‘buried’ thought it might be worth starting a separate thread for this issue.

I recently swapped the master-fluid between two Astro bottles a blue/ pink and violet/ turquoise, so now have a violet/pink and blue/ turquoise - since the swap though both bottles now seem to have flow issues, namely that wax tends to stick around the sides of the bottle particularly towards the bottom, creating a sort of ‘tide line’ around the base and…See More

"Worried now, I don’t recall the wax sticking prior to the fluid swap, and now that I check I can see that I actually have a third bottle marked with the same batch no, which doesn’t seem to have this issue.

I think I read somewhere that…"

"Unfortunately sticky wax is something that has been plaguing bottles ever since they moved to their new factory. I've bought about 12 bottles since the move and most of them have sticky wax problems.  Maybe it's new manufacturing…"

"Also noticed there seems to be another issue, not sure wether or not this is related to the fluid swap or not, but I notice that both bottles when flowing seem to have some wax sticking to the sides near the bottom forming a sort of ‘tide…"

"No worries, What I might do is take more photos in a week or so (and possibly every so often thereafter) to see if I can notice a difference. It's gone colder here again so my lamps are running a bit cool at the minute  - this room…"

"That’s a bit more reassuring, the brown particles in your orange bottle are similar in colour to those in my pink bottle, which possibly makes sense since the pink wax has an almost brown-ish appearance when the wax is molten but not lit - and…"

"Ok, I had a closer look at my turquoise/violet and orange/violet after they had cooled, it seems the “bits” are very similar between them after all, so I’m guessing it could very well be dye in both cases: The violet orange has…"

"My violet/orange has specs in like that, it's definitely different to the dye specs I see in turquoise/blue. These ones don't lessen at all. I'll take a couple of comparison photos when they've cooled."
