Very pretty!!!   I have something like that....it's a flower, but it's in a plexiglass case.  If you look in my videos, you'll see it!!  My daughter and I were thrift shopping and found it.  I had never seen anything like that before.  I got it for 5 bucks!!!

@ Carol Morrow: Great deal if you got one for $5 bucks. They usually start around $40 bucks and go up to $85 or so for this particular model and brand. So good grab you got yourself there.

Nobody even knew what it was when it was boxed!!!  lol!!!  Even the thrift shop lady.  We made her unbox it and plug it in.  It was still in the plastic bag, sealed up and the cord was still wrapped up!  So yep, it was a good find, but the bulb has to be ordered online and it isn't cheap.  Cost me almost 30 bucks for 3 bulbs and one already blew out in a few weeks because I didn't know I'm not supposed to touch hallogren bulbs with my hands, lol!!

I have a couple of these as well. They are quite kitsch ♥

Deb, does your bulb blow out in yours fast?

Comment by Mr.Fibre Optic on September 25, 2014 at 12:42am

@ Carol Morrow: Does yours have a music box built into the bottom as well?

@ Deb: Sorry but what does "Kitsch" mean? I never head that term before

Nope, no music box.  If you go on my profile, you will see it.  I added the music for the video.  I've seen them on ebay with the music box, but never the one that I have.  I also have just pics of it when I first got it new still in the plastic.

Max, kitsch is what "art snobs" consider to be a low-brow style of mass-produced art or design that uses popular or cultural icons. I love the retro stuff. Resin grapes, oil lamps, black velvet paintings etc. I've even heard some call Lava lamps kitsch.

Carol, I don't run mine often so I haven't had to replace any bulbs yet. Didn't realize they were so pricey. Yikes!

Nice fibres Max.

Well explained Debs, the line between kitsch and retro is a blurry one, it all depends on personal taste.

A college at work was telling me his home was decorated and furnished in late 60s style, I said "you must have a Lava lamp then"... his reply... "Oh no I'm not into kitsch"  !!!
