Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hello peeps

i'm really putting this here for reference to anyone who comes a searching for info on replacing the colour wheel drive motor for a Crestworth galaxy.

A while ago the gearing on mine seized (i was gutted!) i found a replacement, but this story doesnt have the happiest of endings because the one i bought has too high a rpm. its only 5rpm, you would think that would be slow enough but no.

this is the model of motor you require:-

however, i believe you really need this model in a 2 or 3 rpm.RS Components will not supply this variant unless you accept the minimum order fee of £500!!

i did investigate and found a company in the UK who build these, but unfortunately the 2rpm model i want works out at just under £100 inc. vat & shipping. for that i might as well wait for a beat up domed one to pop up and keep the other parts for spares!!

FYI the 2rpm model number is 82 334 742 and the company who will supply are called OEM and are in Leicester.

Hubby fitted the motor, and it does work but the colours change a bit too quickly for my liking, not quite as relaxing as it ought to be! but at least they change now and i'm reasonably happy.

What speed does a microwave oven turntable motor run at?. If suiable these are free (by asking on Freecycle/Freegle for a non - working microwave, or just walking around the streets until you find one apparently thrown out, and knock on the door and ask for it!.
i'd be very interested if anyone has a spare!  :)

TBH i think that would still be too quick. the key thing is the size/shape of the motor, not just the rpm. i could have bought a bigger motor that runs at 2/3rpm which would have been cheaper but it wouldnt have fit!
