Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

See the model 101 - the florescent green/red wax lamp? Did this ever really exist? I've never seen one and this is the only picture I can see that has this color combo.

Anyone have any information on this lamp? Did it never make it to production?

I have a model 101 on it's way to me. Should arrive next week. The color is off, but the box does denote "Model 101". I'm pretty excited and hope someone can help me restore this lamp.

Erin, that is the first color sticker like that I've ever seen, and considering how cloudy it is, I wonder if it'll end up being the thick oil lava. At the very least, it's 1966 or 1967. Perhaps the liquid tended to change to this with age? Maybe that's why it was discontinued?

Someday I'll take a red/yellow, try to dye it with fluorescent dye, and see what happens. I'll try to pick up one or two bottlecapped red/yellows at thrift stores for this!

I'm very excited to get it. The liquid looks nowhere close to green, but I talked to the seller and this was the only lava lamp at the estate, so this box does indeed belong to this lamp.

Not only have I never seen that sticker but also never seen that address on Roscoe Street. I would put money on it that this is one of the first lamps ever produced (like first 90 days). The base looks like it may be copper. Totally awesome find Erin :)

Post up some more pics when it arrives.

I didn't even notice the address!

You can bet I'll be posting pics when I get it.

Here's the auction if you want to see the additional details: http://www.ebay.com/itm/260853392368?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_...

Erin, if I may suggest, I would not filter this!  Regular cycling may clear it up, or, as hard as it may be, just letting it "rest".  It does look like it flows OK so even though it is cloudy there is hope.  ;)

I wasn't really thinking about filtering, but rather a water re-do. Jim, didn't you refill an oldie like this? Your Imperial?

If I have any doubts, I won't touch it. :) I might even have it this week!!!

I did refill my Imperial with plain RO water and it flows perfect. I would try to see if it clears first then maybe a filter attempt before a water change.

Erin i got one 2 or 3 months ago like that, and i never filtered it. Now it is a beautiful century. Give it 4 months on 2 hours on 4 off. This is a great combo that shouldn't be changed out at all.
Thanks for the tip Kempton. I'll keep that in mind.

Yeah, I think the Imperial uses a slightly different mix due to its size, which makes the water thing work.
I really would love to get this back to green/red, but with no other lamp to go on, it would be hard to match the color.
