Hey I was wondering if anyone had thought about approaching hagerty with an offer to buy their rights to the lamp? Perhaps a big bunch of us put in a few grand each, we buy the rights, and resurrect this icon to it's rightful place. Our company could produce classic globes and we would all be shareholders. Might be off the cuff, just a thaught

I think Lavaworld has the potential to be great again, i quite liked their product lineup in the 1990s with the large wave machines, the silver century and the american made lineup which focused on quality. I don't know when the transition from Larry Haggerty to Tim Haggerty happened. They cheapened their quality to compete.

Mathmos came to terms that their lamps will not be the cheapest but the quality will be placed in the front. Therefore they needed to stay alive so they diversified with different forms of kinetic lighting moving in the ambient led products in the early 2000s then moved into Airswitch in the mid 2000s and then started playing with candle light.

The problem is Lavaworld has broken the rules of the game, they sell very agressively here. Every shopping center, department store, lighting store stocks them, suddenly they have become international. Retail buyers buy lavaworld as it is a cheaper product and they can resell for a greater value. Lavaworld is killing the whole lava ecosystem here and it is very sad what they are doing, i think they forget they were set up to sell to the USA in the 1960s.

They are completely souless.

Can we start a company making replacement globes? Or is the shape trademarked to the point that even selling a part for it infringement?
