Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Bohdan

Carramar lighting company

I have a Carramar rocket ship lamp. Uses a short 40w bulb
and reflects the light down thru the bottom to light up the base.
Solid chrome base and cap. What kind of history is behind this
lamp. The vase has a hole in the bottom so when you put it in
the base the bulb sits inside the vase. Looks so cool. I got it
from Australia. A very heavy lava lamp.

Hey Akuna,

hope all is well over there, it is a shame to hear they are facing liquidation do you know when the company was setup, 70s,80s,90s? I think lavaworld has started selling very agressively in Australia now, which may have had an impact plus the cheap imports from china means that it is even harder to compete. Do you anyway we could pass questions to Bill?

peace,
ant.

Hi Ant, I will pass your email address onto him. I cannot remember exactly when but i think after 2000, as I was not at the company anymore at the time. Cheers Steve.

Hi Akuna - thanks for your post- i am looking to put some information out of them on the internet - can you describe the other kinds of lamps Carramar put out - i am trying to find a catalogue or a brochure or some drawings, i have seen some fibre optics with the carramar lighting company on the base. May i ask, what was the composition of the company, you had a design team and sales and marketing teams. Any idea on when the company was founded? Any help is really appreciated, i can post a letter off, if you don't have an email address. I might give them a call, see if i can catch them.

Here is a few pics of what the lamp is like inside and out. A very well built lava lamp . The first one i have seen with the bulb inside the globe. And not made in China but Australia.

man I can't wait to get mine, they must have sent it by sea as it's nearly been a month. another available color was purple/clear. Mine doesn't appear to have the white feet on it anymore. Thanks Bohdan for the pics

I finally won one of these on eBay
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260242800835
I requested a few accessories (lightbulbs, extension cord) with it, and I'm REALLY looking forward to the international shipping rate when I get the invoice---NOT!

Here's hoping it doesn't get destroyed in it's long journey to California!!

Well done they are a nice Lava lamp to own and quite heavy. The globe is so cool
on the base with the bottom open for the light to shine out of. But what is really cool
is the bulb in side the globe a very nice design . And so well built and nicely Chromed.

I agree Bohdan, they are very nice - kind of a mix between the traditional astro and maybe a rocket shaped design with the feet.

I just called the company up from London, they are still around and still answer the phone - i wonder what the time is in australia nearly 1am here london time.

In South Australia it is 9.30am

Just speaking to Bill and he is going to look at this site.

The lights purchased in the UK are actually made in China under contract as ther is no VAT to ship from China.

The case is still going in relation to Carramar Lighting regarding the liquidation.
