I noticed there isn't a option to choose what Smart astro you want so it may not be entirely ready.

Come on guys... the site is obviously not ready. The coming soon text was just poorly placed. I would bet money no orders will actually go through right now.

Oh you shush. Do not dampen our excitement!

I saw this last night and I got all excited lol.  I was always under the impression that Mathmos could not sell to the U.S because Lava World (Lava Lite) owned the rights.  I'm really glad to see this change and I hope more and more Lava collectors buy Mathmos as they offer a top quality product.  Maybe Lava Lite can take a hint.  :D

I'm not sure what they were thinking "disabling" the lava page by placing a small image covering part of a couple items. Even the one item that's completely covered is still there and active if you get rid of the image (easy using one of many development tools that can modify CSS in a live page).

I haven't tried going past the address entry part of the checkout process with a lava lamp, but I doubt they'd do anything other than cancel and refund the order at this point.

I think you can order 5 of the bottom 6 lamps but not the top 3. If you can add it to your cart now, you can buy it.

Ok so who's gonna be the one with the braging rights of ( I WAS THE FIRST TO ORDER ) Hmmm?
Awesome! I wonder what this means for lava world!
Well considering mathmos sells to a different market, I doubt they care. Its like a used honda civic dealership worried about a ferrari dealership moving in next to them. Lava lite sells cheap low quality throw away lamps, mathmos sells quality lamps that are meant to last. Another good analogy would be plastic forks and silver forks. One may last a use or two, the other lasts for years. Okay that's enough lava lite bashing from me today. I hope they actually see mathmos as a threat and improve the quality of their lamps, but I don't see that happening. As long as kids buy the cheap $20 lamps lava lite will keep making them. Gotta love our throw away society.

That is true - there is no competition between Lava Lite lamps and Mathmos.

Mathmos do want to make money but the thing is that apparently they are really annoying to there retailers - you have to buy a minimum order of products (which will be expensive) and you can't charge under there RRP (i.e. what they sell them for directly from there websight).

The thing is that this puts a lot of retailers who already sell Lava Lite items off buying them as they see it as too expensive. - The shops which do buy them are manly online lighting shops (i.e. Electric Planet) and higher end department shops (e.g. John Lewis) where there customers will spend money on quality items.

Lavalite will have a problem over time, if mathmos lamps are displayed next to them.

But as we know mathmos... they dont want to earn money... so they will never display their products in a shop ;)

The average kid or parent of a kid will see a $20 lamp sitting next to an $80 lamp. Neither of them will spend $80 on a lamp. When I was younger getting $50 for a new video game was a challenge, $80 for a lamp would be out of the question. Kids dont really care about quality, they both look like lava lamps. The only people who will be buying mathmos lamps are collectors, adults, and kids with rich parents

Autumn, that's the great thing about collecting and knowing what we're looking for in lamps. While we are buying quality lamps, everyone else is buying their $20 lamps. Just an example, look at the quality between a Telstar and one of those rocket lamps they have on Ebay. I'm not knocking those other rocket lamps, but the quality between the two is uncanning. I will spend $50 more for quality. And look at it this way, if they don't buy Mathmos, it just leaves more for us goo-heads. :>)

For sure. I have old LL that are awesome still pre china. And I have a few china made ones they don't even compare! And mathmos makes LL look like a joke! I'm now even more happy cause I was only going to get a few mathmos with tax return, now without the high shipping I can get even more!
