Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

A friend has an Excalibur with questionable wax.  If I were going to GooKit it, what is the size of the globe in ounces?  I've seen comparisson pictures with a 520z and it's larger, but I'm not sure that will help me when adding the goo.  Thanks for any help.

Excals came with 2 different bottles. The champagne style bottle is a little bigger then the short stubby bottle. But both where no more then 104 oz., I've refilled both bottles using 2 -52 oz. bottles and they both had leftover wax and fluid but not much.

Thanks for the info!  Looks like we may be doing two!  I picked one up from CList today.  It's pretty cloudy and forming a bunch of tiny round blobs.  The previous owner was a smoker and the base and top are covered in nicotine.  Any suggestions on cleaning?  The top was lop-sided and I figured out why when trying to clean it...the sun emblem fell out.  It's clearly been glued back in the top.  Best way to glue it?  And while I'm at it...what wattage bulb do these lamps need?  There's a 50 watt in it...could that be the reason for the small melts?

FWIW he told me he bought it at Sam's Club and thinks he paid around $120 for it.  I can't find much info on these lamps.

Thanks for any help!

lol well I assure u these weren't available at Sam's club. I don't think Sams club was even around then... well at least they weren't nearly as large as they are now.  They used to sell these at spencers back in the 90's. I use the foam glass cleaner seems to clean the base and caps well. The bottles I always just stick them in the dishwasher and that leaves them spotless. The plastic piece can become a pain but any strong glue would work.

Thanks, Dr. WHAT.  I will try the foam glass cleaner....I happen to have some.  I edited and you may have missed it...what wattage bulb do you use?

I think they call for a 65 watt but I dont recall. My are currently packed away so I can't look for you. Look on the inside of the base it should say something. Either way they probably dont make the bulb anymore lol.

LOL, great...

Thanks again!

The sticker says 75 watt R20, just for info.

Yep a 75 watter is the correct bulb.

I know this post is 7 years old but I was looking into some information on refilling my Excalibur lamps. I have 3 that I bought at Sam's Club probably around 2000. They are all pretty cloudy now. I got a fourth about year ago from Craigslist in great condition but I'm not a fan of the yellow/blue combo.

But I appreciate the information on this discussion board!
