Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hi,

since the first Living Jewel lamp I got, I have the project to make one big Living Jewel bottle for my Lunar.

I don't know if it was done before, but there will be some difficulties to do one.

So if you can help me, thank you.

1-First I have to find at least 6 bottles (I've got 3 now, but I want to keep 2 of them, so only 1 available right now for my project, if you've got one to sell, let me know please)

2-How to open them? The cap is sealed with glue (what kind?).

Is it safe to heat the bottle with boiling water like I do for "normal" bottles?

3-Anyone has got any idea how to pour the liquid in the Lunar in a way to minimise vaporisation of the liquid? (wind is no good, so it may be better to do it inside, even it's toxic)

4- How to pefectly seal the bottle when it's full?

The seal must be solvent proof.

5- What bulb to use on the Lunar?

A normal Living Jewel bottle runs great on 15w bulb, and the max advised power to use is 25w (I saw one running with a 30w bulb)

In a big 4.5l Lunar bottle, what do you think will be the best bulb? (

Hot enough to run the lamp fast, but not too hot to avoid risks of breaking the lamp.

By the way, I think Arne said something about a Lunar Bottle who had blow away, anyone heard about this?

Again, if you can help in any way (advices, bottles) you're welcome.

I really want to make this Living Jewel Lunar.

Thank you.

personaly id not do it, mainly as the liquid isnt very friendly, also if you over heat it the silver coating with disolve of the glitter squares, with the amount of liquid in the bottle, you really need a bright bulb, so the top of the fluid in the bottle is bright which i doubt you'll get from a 25 watt bulb,  If i was gonna make one then id stick to mathmos glitterbaby / jet glitter fluid or one of them grande glitters and use a 60watt bulb, the grande glitter will move faster and more saver than the living jewel fluid,

Grande Glitter faster than a Living Jewel?

Isn't the Grande Glitter a slow glitter?

About the bulb for a Lunar Living Jewel, as the 30watt bulb is safe for a jet bottle (not recommended but still safe), I guess a 60w may be safe too in a Lunar bottle as there is so much more liquid and the bottom of the bottle is made of thicker glass, but this is just a guess.

I would not worry to much about brightness in top of the bottle as the liquid is clear, but I'm more worried about finding the right amount of heat through the bottle (not too much at bottom, but enough at the top.

I don't want to ruin 6 bottles of Living Jewel, that's why I'm asking advices here.

It would be so cool if I could call a tech from Mathmos, too bad they don't care about their past products.

About silver coating being disolved, are you sure it's because of heat?

I was told it was because of long running lamps.

the grande glitter is alot faster than mathmos glitterbabys, like u said "long running" lamps means its getting hotter than longer its on and that will cause the silver coating to disapear on the living jewel glitter.

Oh,all right, faster than Glitterbaby OK, not faster than Living Jewel as you wrote before.

Yes it would be a lot safer/cheaper/easier than Living Jewel, but a lot less nicer too :-)

Excuse me for butting in guys.

Crestworth Living Jewels and Lava Lite Wizards are as good as it gets when it comes to classic glitter lamps IMHO.

Why destroy/ruin rare vintage lamps that some of us would love to own ?

Why?

Because it's the only way to make a custom Lunar bottle as the liquid is not available elsewhere.

If I could buy liquid and flakes somewhere I'll do it right now as it will be cheaper and easier.

Sorry, but this topic is not "are you for or against my project", but "could you help me to realise my project" ;-)

Nothing wrong with Lava (except it takes hours to get started, and doesn't age well).

I'm dreaming about this bottle, but I perfectly understand not everybody does.

May all of your dreams come true.  ;)

id deffo go down the road with a grande glitter bottle, gonna work out alot cheaper

I've just heard from someone who made one bottle with fast glitter from Wizard.

I'm waiting for his advices. I think there is the same issues with fast glitter whatever where it come from.
