Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Normally don't care to post these kinds of things, but this is the 2nd time I've had issues with this buyer. Both times, they take several days to pay (say they have an eBay gift card to find, first), THEN start asking questions.

Username: generationmac (now changed userid to biditdown)

I recently listed and sold this lamp:

Buyer doesn't make any contact with me until I file a non-paying bidder claim. Then tells me they'll pay for the lamp Wednesday, which is the last day of the case. Says they have to find their eBay gift certificate.

THEN, they start asking me questions about the lamp (bulb used, flow). Admitted they "wanted a glitter lamp anyway" and that they "didn't read the auction correctly to understand this was the "refilled lava" without glitter".

I had a problem with this same user when I sold a wave machine.

Anywho, I'll try and keep it somewhat short.

Seller beware. It just SUCKS that you cannot leave neg feedback for buyers anymore on eBay. I have blocked them from bidding on any future auctions of mine.

Grrr...

I think a lot of your argument is null and void simply after you posted this:

Jim, You don't know me, Steven doesn't know me and Erin doesn't know me and none of this was "personal" until Erin started to rip me in this forum starting 6 days ago... the 27th, I hadn't even gotten the lamp yet nor had I posted any feedback until today. Jim you have every right to leave feedback for every eBay purchase, but don't call me a piece of crap buyer because I don't leave feedback all the time. Feedback is not a courtesy or a rule. Its an OPTION! If Erin doesn't like my feedback, she should have considered her actions over the last week. Honestly I hadn't thought about this lamp  until I didn't get a tracking number update for 3 days. I didn't much care for it when Erin told me "I'm not answering any more questions" when I asked if the lamp will work like pictured with a lower watt bulb. I never ONCE said I wasn't going to complete the sale.  I was however concerned about all the things she posted about this lamp earlier on this forum that she didn't include in the listing, that I only discovered after the auction ended.

Yes it's true Erin included the lamp cannot handle a 40 watt bulb, But it's ALSO TRUE that the lamp will NOT make the blobs as pictured with a lower watt bulb either and that was LEFT OUT. Being the experts on these lamps, you seem to think that omission is hunky dorey but not everyone is an expert on lava lamps... and certainly not me because while it may be obvious to you that $76 should have told me there were serious problems with this lamp, it wasn't to me. I thought I was at the very least getting a square lava lamp that would work. I understood the parts reference to mean if it were to return to being a Gemlite Glitter lamp with would have to be refilled with glitter. It never occurred to me the problem with the heat generated by a lower watt bulb would not allow the lava to blob.  I'm also sorry that you feel it's ok to take advantage of people's lack of knowledge on the lava/gemlite/msitique/glitter subject. Juat because what Erin said in the listing was True it wasn't the WHOLE TRUTH.

And I didn't much care for you taking EIGHT DAYS TO PAY and not even talking to me until I filed a non-paying bidder claim.

You keep saying that I didn't say the WHOLE TRUTH. I posted everything I knew to be true, yet you keep repeatedly calling me out on other tangents, avoiding the real issue.

There are other things that are NOT TRUE about the lamp, but it's YOUR JOB to ask all your hypotheticals before you bid. ie: will the lamp run on a 60W bulb? Will it blend? What does it do in a microwave? What happens if you leave it out in the sun? Does the lamp match my decor? Is the metal titanium or some other metal? Why should I have to answer all your questions after the fact?

The lamp works with a 40W bulb, that's true. That's all I know to be true. Using a 40W bulb will melt the base. I showed a pic of the melted base. The lamp will make the blobs as pictured with a 40W bulb.

You said: "NOT make the blobs as pictured with a lower watt bulb either and that was LEFT OUT"

Do you see the error in this statement? I cannot possible answer all hypothetical questions unasked by... people who don't ask them.

The lamp will explode if put in the oven. I left that out. But you know what, if you had that concern, you should have asked before the fact.

YOU are at fault here. NOT ME.

Gah. I don't know why I bother... you don't seem to understand basic logic.

If you don't have time to read an auction's details completely, then don't bother bidding. You don't have time to bid on it.

I am "At fault" for WHAT EXACTLY? Defending myself? Calling you on the carpet?  Again, I never said I wasn't going to complete the transaction,

  • I paid for the auction and waited for the lamp. I shouldn't have to contact the seller three days later for tracking info that was requested with the payment.  I haven't filed a Not as described complaint which I probably have as good a shot as you of prevailing. I came to the forum to learn what could be done to save this lamp after  you melted it because it truly needs some TLC and what do I find? You bashing me hoping I "ROT"

  • So you rant for 6 days about me on this forum before I even get the lamp, talk about your desire to post negative feedback for me, when I hadn't even gotten the lamp yet, and I hadn't posted ANYTHING about you, this eBay sale, nothing. Then you are SURPRISED that you received your first negative feedback after I discover you bashing me in this forum? I am not at fault for anything. You didn't have a problem until you created your problem. You hope I  "ROT"? You say things like that and then expect that behavior to be rewarded with WHAT EXACTLY? Positive feedback? You think you did nothing wrong.... I totally disagree. My feedback is true, It's only the characters allowed the limited the comment.

Yes, that's true, I wish I had never bid. And I paid for the auction, I never asked for an out and I never asked for a return or a refund. What I didn't expect was to log into this site to research a "fix" and find the seller trashing me telling all she hopes I  ROT. Yeah... a real class act.

But the fact is, you did. That is the crux of this entire thing. What she says about the sale on another forum entirely has nothing to do with your transaction with her on ebay.

Again, I bid and I paid and like I said earlier, I expected at the very least to get a square lava lamp. I also expected it to flow as pictured. It's not unreasonable to expect the item pictured to function as pictured

From just reading the back-and-forth on here, ignoring the anger on both sides and looking at what was said, I have to side with Erin. Bottom line, and everything else comes back to these:

--The auction showed multiple photos of the lava-filled lamp and only one of it next to a GemLite version.

--The auction showed the damaged base and the missing top.

--The auction clearly describes that the lamp is a refill, doesn't work on 40watts, and that the GemLite pictured in one of the many photos is NOT for sale.

--End result is, you bid without reading. You got what you bid on. Doesn't matter if it wasn't what you wanted, you bid on it and you won it. So you don't really have a case here.

It does flow with a 40W bulb. How many more times do I have to say that?

I don't have a case for what? Again, I paid for the lamp. I haven't asked to return the lamp. My objection is the behavior of the seller during the sale  and in this forum.

No, you stated "it cannot handle a 40 watt bulb".... you did not state you will need at least a 40 watt lamp for the lava to flow and I didn't test it to see if it would work with a lower watt bulb. Geez, you guys miss the point totally.
